Where can I find a free upgrade to Vista Premium?

Asked by Blondesjon (33994points) October 3rd, 2009

This is a purely hypothetical question. I would never use any of the knowledge shared here to upgrade my system illegally.

I’m just a naturally curious guy.

Vista is not free. That’s why Bill Gates is not short of cash. If you’re going to upgrade, though, why not upgrade to Windows 7. It’s supposedly much better than Vista in numerous ways.

You could scrounge a copy from someone , or torrent it . You could download 3rd party things to make it run like premium , but it would still be xp or vista basic whatever you use .

Are you asking if illegal copies are available, of course they are. People break every sort of law.

If you were a Computer Science major Microsoft doles out free copies of Windows over the Microsoft Download Network (MSDN).

@pdworkin . . .How in heaven’s name do these scalawags get a hold of illegal copies?

dpworkin's avatar

@Blondesjon it is, of course, a deep mystery to me

Instead of going to vista premium , why not find the hacked version of windows 7 .
Chances are your system will run it easily , i once had a copy of xp some guy of some guy installed it . Then years down the way the system died , a computer shop installed his version of xp again copied

Alternatively you could purchase a copy of Windows 7 from a retailer. It will be available October 22.

You can use a BitTorrent client to download it. First you will need to use a BitTorrent search engine to find a copy you want to download.

But this is wrong.

dpworkin's avatar

It is possible that the use of a torrent client may put you at risk for certain legal and computer problems.

@doggywuv . . .You are gosh darn right that it’s wrong. I would NEVER try to do that especially when the chances of getting a virus from it are what?

sandystrachan's avatar

@Blondesjon If you take the correct torrent file , then you wont get virus . The chances of getting caught are higher, than you catching any nasties from the file

@sandystrachan . . .Horrifying!

What happens to these scoundrels when they are finally nabbed?

sandystrachan's avatar

Fine , jail banned from internets and computer . I know of someone who was caught recently , had to pay a large fine and was banned from owning a computer or internet. Name address black listed with every supplier , even libraries and cafes

Yeah nothing about Windows is free except the viruses, and even then you have to pay out the @$$ to remove them and prevent them! And trust me when I say Vista is NOT worth paying for!

Blondesjon's avatar

@ShanEnri . . .I don’t mind Vista. I’ve been running home basic. I just thought there might be an <ahem> easy way to upgrade.

I’ve heard a lot of folks rip on Vista and most of them use XP. I run XP on my notebook and I think it blows.

@Blondesjon It does have some good points, but the bad far outweigh the good! I had XP before, it was also another pc, but I did prefer some (most) of the XP perks!
