How good of a 4-leaf clover finder are you?

Asked by buster (10274points) October 6th, 2009

The other day my buddy and I were sitting on his porch drinking beer. We were looking in the down in the grass and clovers and he remarked he could never find 4 leaf clovers. I remarked that my mom can find several in a few minutes time and so can I. My dad and sisters can’t find them easily though. Well within 5 minutes time I found 2, 4 leaf clovers and he looked for 30 minutes and found none. I have also found several 5 leaf clovers over time and once a 6 leaf clover. My mom also has found a 6 leaf clover once. Are you good at spotting 4 leaf clovers? Whats the most leafs you have found on one? Do you think its a skill like witching water, telekinesis, and other e.s.p.?

I have to admit, I have never found a four-leaf clover. I remember looking many times when I was a little girl, but always came up unsuccessful. I even use to glue on a 4th leaf to tease my younger sister ^_^

I’m not sure I’d classify it as a skill such as the ones you listed, however I’d have to say you must be one lucky-duck! If I had your “skill” of finding these little signs of luck, I would pick a few and pass them onto strangers or place them in obvious places for people to discover. Put one in a small ziploc bag and place in a book in a book store.

Thanks for the fun question – LB

My grandmother used to be able to find several anytime we went out for a walk or on a trip to a park or playground. She’d press them in her encyclopedias at home. She found so many, she was often given four leaf clover gifts (she was Russian, not Irish) for various holidays.

Wow, I’m jealous.

I bought a four-leaf clover “kit” at Barnes and Noble (actually just some seeds and a peat pellet). They didn’t guarantee a four-leaf clover, but there were so many seeds that it was likely there would be a few. I grew them in the tiny little pot they provided and found only three-leafers. I eventually moved it into a huge pot in my backyard and forgot about it. When I looked at it again months later, there were 10x more clovers, and no four-leafs! I left it out for the winter and expected them all to die, but once the sun came out again, they all starting growing again. And once again, no four-leaf clovers. Or maybe I just couldn’t find one. I ended up pulling them all out and using the soil for something else.

Like others have mentioned, I just wanted one that I could place in a book… :(

Im awful at it and I guess me living out in the country when I was little I was obsessed in finding them. I only have found one in my entire life. When I was younger if I had been looking for a long time for one and was having no luck I would just pick a regular one and tear one of the leaves in half to make my own 4-leaf clover so I wouldn’t feel so discouraged. Its wasn’t the same :(

The only time I found four leaf clovers (and now that I think about it, the only time I looked), I found an entire patch of them. I picked about 30 (and left the rest to reproduce), dried them, and them laminated them and gave them all away as gifts.

I have never been good at this, and have known people like you that could always find one. It’s a gift. :)

I found one once. I was standing next to a hill of grass talking to a friend, and felt strangely like I wanted to look for one, even though I never had felt like doing that before… Two minutes of looking down at the grass later (I did it rather inconspicuously, since I didn’t want to look like a weirdo to my friend), I found one. It was very strange. I meant to press it but didn’t, and found it shriveled on my desk a few weeks later…

I was always the kid in the park who would cheat. Find a 3-leaf and split one of the leaves in half. Look a 4-leaf clover!

I have only found one, it is currently pressed between the pages of my prayer book.

I used to search for hours when I was little and usually found one! Now I don’t have the patience for it!

I’ve never found one. And I’ve looked. :(

I’m amazing at it. I have found up to 6 leaved ones. I can even be walking down the street, see one, and turn around and pick it : ) I’m part Irish. Maybe that’s why!

augustlan's avatar

@emilyrose Me, too, but my Irish ancestry doesn’t seem to help me. :(

I arrived home from picking up the little ones and my eldest who had walked home from school was banging at the car window with a four and five leafed clover in her hand! This led to a quest in the front garden (they had binoculars and a magnifying glass and a little pot with a lid so they wouldn’t blow away) their mission found 21 four leaf clovers and 3 five leafed ones – do you think I could I find one? – no just a sea of 3 leaf clovers. I now have little fairies who think that they are going to wake up rich in the morning! Going to press them and will have some very cute pressies come Christmas! (the clovers obviously not my girls!) ;-D

I too have the ability to find four leaf clovers without even trying. Yesterday I spotted one by the side of the path out of the corner of my eye as I was strolling by. I can’t however claim to have found thousands like some. For a start I never bother trying to find them – the times when I have I’ve been unsuccessful. And these days I don’t often spend much time in the great outdoors which is bound to slow me down. But ever since I was a child I’ve had the knack of spotting them. Once I found one when I was running full speed.
It seems that many people who have the gift also have other family members who share the ability. This got me wondering if there was some genetic link. My aunt I know has found quite a lot. I’m left handed too – could that be a link? If you find them easily I’d love to hear from you to see if you or any family members are left handed. If you or no-one in your family is left handed I’d still like to know as it is just as important to look for contradictory evidence when testing a hypothesis.
Thanks, Carlos (my e.mail is “carlospesdacore@hotmail.co.uk”)
