Am I the only one using an "outdated" browser?

Asked by bunnygirl50665 (80points) October 11th, 2009

Any other old timers out there besides me? I’m using internet explor 7, I believe. Do you think I should switch to a newer one? Which browser do you prefer? What perks are there to getting an up-to-date browser?

A lot of people swear by FireFox, from www.mozilla.org. Why not try it and see? It’s a free download, and if you don’t like it you can always go back to IE7 or upgrade to IE8.

Make sure you take advantage of the many plug-ins and add-ons.

Plenty of free downloads but beware! Unless you are really good at this computer stuff, it is really hard to get rid of it if you decide you don’t like it. It messed up a bunch of our links and my husband still hasn’t forgiven me.

Don’t be scared. If you don’t like it I will help you make it go away as if it had never been there. You can PM me. I promise.

@pdworkin ; Next time I’m at my awful computer I might PM you. I installed firefox and it messed up his desk top link to amazon unbox, or at least the link to amazon.com THROUGH amazon unbox. We tried removing it(firefox) but we have to go to amazon.com through Internet explorer in order to buy shows from amazon now. He gripes and complains every time and I feel bad every time that I ever downloaded it.

I am really not interested in all the fancy downloads and such. I prefer to have a nice, simple browser. I’ve heard of firefox and I’ve used it on the library’s computers, and it’s pretty nice if you ask me. All I really want on my browser is all the main things like the address bar, favorites, refresh, ect, and then I’d also like a “links” section. Or at least that’s what it’s called on my browser.

The nice thing about Firefox is that it can be the way you want it to be. That being said, Opera is a good, fast browser, Google Chrome is a nice browser, some people like Safari. I think right now most people who are familiar with the choices like Firefox best, but I have no brand loyalty myself, and things change fast on the web.

Just use anything but IE.

If you’re running Windows, I would definitely make sure that you’re running the latest version. I’m not sure if Windows 7 is still supported, but as soon as it’s not it’s a very high risk to keep running it, as your browser can be a great entry gate for viruses so if there’s a security hole in it that won’t be patched, you run a considerable risk of picking up a virus,

It’s ok! I have 4 different browsers, Opera, Firefox, IE 7, and Apple Safari. You can stick with IE if you’d like, but Opera is pretty good to me! And, it runs faster, in my opinion.

Opera is quite speedy. If it had Adblock+ I would be on it like white on rice.

My favorite is Firefox, it seems less invasive than others I have tried and much faster than a lot of the preloaded ones.
