We have two Polaris Sportsmans. We have a 400 and a 450. They are both automatic and can switch from 2×4 to 4×4. They can pull a house down and you have to try to get them stuck. The only thing I would do different is get the EFI versions for starting in cold weather. Great machines.

i should have also stated what @buster said. Purchase the largest size you can afford. I would start looking at 500 EFI’s but if your finances can swing an 800, go for it! You won’t be disappointed.

whatever you do, do not get a polaris. get a bombardier outlander 400. i have one and we hauled a bull moose out of the bush this year with it. it’s great in the mud too. if you want more power go with 800 but usually, those arent as good for hauling trips.

@mclaugh – Just curious, what problems have you had with Polaris? I have been running those for years and the are work horses. Hauled everything from small deer to bull elk. I have even seen sea planes pulled out of the water up a boat ramp.

brakes and suspension.. but mostly all suspension. i’ve never had one myself(a polaris i mean) but quite a few of my friends have had some and they all had problems with the suspension. but maybe they all had lemons? lol..i’ve heard some good things about them but just more bad things..i guess every company has their faults and their specialties. :)
