When is azithromycin ever used to treat middle ear infections?

I thought we should only use amox or amp...

Is this the antibiotic that you take for only 5 days?

depends what you are taking it for

If you're allergic to antibiotics in the penicillin family, you might take Azithromycin as an alternative. It covers the most common bacterial causes of middle ear infections: S. pneumonia, H. influenza, and M. catarrhalis. Otherwise, your doctor will usually prescribe Amoxicillin.
