Should I buy an iMac?

I want to buy my fiance an iMac desktop. I don’t know much about specs, and the people at the Mac store always suggest upgrading (of course). Is the basic desktop going to: be able to run MMORPGs reasonably, startup quickly, hold all of our iTunes, word documents and photots?
