Looking for a restaurant suggestion around Rockefeller Center in New York?

Asked by poofandmook (17320points) October 19th, 2009

I can’t believe I am asking a question about New York City after all the times I’ve been there.

I’m looking for a restaurant relatively close to Rockefeller Center. Ideally the place would be intimate, maybe a bit cozy, maybe a bit romantic, but not super expensive, fancy, hoity-toity, or exotically-ethnic (my boyfriend’s tastebuds register nothing more exciting than Italian, possibly Mexican). I’m taking him to see the tree when he visits this December, and I’d like to have a nice dinner while we’re there, but not somewhere that I’d have to worry about a dress code, or a tourist trap.

It may be a bit further than you want but I really like the restaurant Marseille which is on 44th and 8th or possibly 9th Avenue. It’s a French bistro with Moroccan accents – not too exotic – nice service and not touristy or chi-chi.

I want to go here every time I walk past it. It’s part of a beautiful church. And on Park, you’re out of the intensity of Rockefeller Center proper, but it’s not far away at all.
