How can I get my cat to stop eating my bamboo?

Asked by DesireeCassandra (1140points) October 20th, 2009

My cat goes and eats the leaves from my new bamboo plant when I am asleep or not home. How can I get him to stop? I haven’t caught him in the act!

Pheromone sprays. They sell them at pets stores.

Get him a small tray – like a litter tray, and plant grass in it. Get a couple and rotate them indoors/outdoors. Cats need some vegetation.

Dust finely ground pepper all over, maybe a bit of a spray with water first to make it stick. That’s what we did with our couch when I was a kid (without the water though) to stop the dog chewing away. Worked like a charm.

Alternative 2: hot sauce.

Feed it more? Maybe your kittie’s hungry

There are sprays available to discourage it(these are not pheromones). As @DarkScribe said, growing some grass for the kitty is a good idea too.

Plant an extra crop of bamboo for the cat to munch on!

Get her her own little cat nip plant! That’s better than bamboo any day!! Cayenne pepper works better than plane black pepper as a deterrent though.

You could get rid of the bamboo plant.

get your cat some cat grass… cats like to eat plants too, they will probably pick cat grass over bamboo any day. :)
