Are you a dreamer, a realist, a pacifist, a pessimist or an amalgamation?

Wondering how most classify themselves.

Glass half full, half empty, just about where it should be…or wish the glass were a can instead? ;)

I am a solepcist, and I wrote your question.

It depends on the situation. I am capable of all of them.

SpatzieLover's avatar

@jaketheripper So does that make you a judge-mentalist?

mattbrowne's avatar

An amalgamation of a dreamer, a visionary, an idealist, a realist, a pragmatist, and a peace-loving optimist.

Optimist.

I’m a pessimist, I always think the worst.

I tend to think of myself as a realist, but it often comes off as pessimism to others. So, I try to be extra cheerful for those who don’t want their bubbles burst. :D

I THINK that the glass is a can or sometimes a bucket or even a pool, and it is ALWAYS half full if not more. Sometimes I drop the glass and I see it shatter on the floor tiles, that is hard. Then I start over again like a complete idiot. I am an optimist and a dreamer in an unhealthy way, NOT a realist in any way.

I’m a dreamer

Pessimistic realist. People find that my bluntness makes me pessimistic, but I really just hate giving people false hope when I know that nothing good can come out of a certain situation.

Jeruba's avatar

Realist, or try to be: glass half full of water and half full of air.

But there is a time for dreaming.

Ame_Evil's avatar

I am a realist, but on the edge of pessimism. It is probably possible that my pessimism causes a self-fulfilled prophecy which makes me feel as though I am a realist. I also think that this attitude is linked to my depression (but how they interact I do not know).

I hate people who say I should think more optimistically especially when I know there’s a good chance that nothing can be done. I strongly hate false hope. Mostly I try to think that it will either happen or not, so I just go along with it to see the outcome if its no biggie.

Also about the glass half full/half empty. If you filled it up halfway it is HALF FULL, if you drank half of it it is HALF EMPTY.

/edit: Also why I adopt the pessimistic attitude is that I don’t like to be disappointed. I like my world to be predictive. I usually think of the worst scenarios out of each situation and think that might happen. Then when it doesn’t happen I can’t really feel any worse than if I was the opposite – I was hoping for something that didn’t happen. And if it does happen I am already prepared.

I am contradicting myself a bit in places, but its quite situation-specific on how I respond.

Any of the first three depending on how I feel. I don’t know what the last one means.

Ame_Evil's avatar

@Facade An amalgamation is a mixture of the first 3. So in theory you are all 4.

Definitely a realist. Though my girlfriend sees it as pessimism. She wants me to lie to her about certain things to make her happy, and I find it hard to do it.

Berserker's avatar

I’m pretty much a pessimist, and people describe me as a nihilsit, even though I have no idea wtf that even is. No matter how hard I try, there’s always more shit than flowers.

However, I’ve long learned that it doesn’t matter how much or how little booze my cup holdeth, but rather how drunk it will get me when I drink it.

Skaggfacemutt's avatar

I am a cockeyed optimist. I guess I would be a pessimist if it would do me any good, but I find that expecting wonderful outcomes in all things brings me a lot more happiness.
