Do you think Dollhouse will be cancelled after the end of season 2?

Asked by evegrimm (3714points) October 23rd, 2009

I was reading on IMDb.com that Dollhouse has been pulled from November sweeps (it’s being replaced with House + Bones reruns).

In December, Dollhouse will be showing back-to-back episodes (2 every Friday) to finish up the season.

Do you think Fox will renew Dollhouse? Why or why not?

(Keep in mind that the Fox execs have said they won’t make a decision until after the end of season 2.)

Would you be happy to see Dollhouse go, and perhaps get something new from Whedon? Or are you done with Joss?

I think so. It was hyped up to be a brilliant show but it turned out to only be so so… Doubt it will make it past season 2. If, by some miracle it does then It will probably die in it’s third.

Probably. I only know 1 other person who watches it. I like it. It has great potential, but the potential doesn’t seem to be expressing itself very well.

My husband just told me it looks like it will be cancelled. I like it, but it isn’t great, I don’t know many people personally who watch it. Maybe it is on at a bad time? I have no idea when it is on, I DVR it.

I liked it in the beginning but now I’m a bit over it. They haven’t done any really good story development.

I preferred the actress in “Tru(e) Calling”. They could put that back on the air and I’d be happy :)

@JLeslie, it’s actually on at the same (dead) time as Firefly—Friday evenings.

@all, I agree that the show hasn’t really lived up to its potential, although it’s terribly interesting and better than a lot of other shows on the air. I wish, however, it was more of a “Joss” show—more like his previous ones, anyway.

The best episode of Dollhouse is the one they didn’t air on television: “Epilogue.”

I was upset months ago when I found out they canceled Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles and left this show to die on Friday night. After finally watching Firefly, I’m even more flabbergasted that Dollhouse got the extension it did when the much, much better Firefly only got one season.

Life just isn’t fair.

I think the Fox execs are jealous of Joss’s awesomeness. So they put his shows on bad nights. :D

Also, the fanbase is really loyal, but not as big as, say, American Idol’s. (Obviously.)

WHAT?!! They cancelled Terminator? Crap.

tinyfaery's avatar

I heard fans bombarded fox with emails and letters demanding it be continued.

I loved the Terminator. Lame. Shows with kick-ass females aren’t doing so well these days. I miss Buffy. Wait. I have them all on DVD.

According to TVbythenumbers it’s one of the three shows most likely to be canceled this year.

Oh No!!! I LOVE Doll House!!! I just don’t watch it on the network TV. I have been watching this season on the Fox website though.

Dollhouse is basically cancelled for the post-christmas season. While Fox has promised to show all the episodes they won’t be shown during november sweeps and instead will appear in 2-hour chunks in december.

Sarcasm's avatar

Yes, I think it’ll get cancelled.
It had shit ratings for the first season, but he small rabid fanbase told Fox that dollhouse would get more support for season 2. Looks like they were wrong.

I keep watching it, trying to like it, but it just isn’t working. same with FlashForward

I dont think they would cancel it because the new director/CEO/guy in charge said” If another Joss Whedon show get canceled I’d have about a thousand angry people spamming my inbox.” Anyone here going to be one of those? If so let me know the guys email.

factual correction: “Epitaph One”.

I’d rather have Firefly back. I’m not overly fond of Dollhouse although I do watch it.

@Ria777 Thanks for the correction.

The most recent episode was amazing. (It’s on Hulu and Fox’s website if you haven’t seen it.) It deals with Sierra’s background and how she came to be in the Dollhouse, as well as Topher growing as a character.

I’m really looking forward to seeing Summer Glau playing a crazy person (again). (Trailer.)

However, Fox said that Dollhouse would be gone in November, whereas next Friday is still October. Doesn’t bode well for the show, now, does it?

Back-to-back shows will be lots of fun, though.

Sarcasm's avatar

They said it would be gone FOR November, it will return in December. I believe 2 episodes per week.

Unfortunately, I think it should have been cancelled before it even got to Season 2. I’m with @drdoombot: I, too, was pissed off to learn that Dollhouse returned for another season when a great show like Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles did not.

Dollhouse isn’t exactly Whedon’s best work, imo. The concept wasn’t so strong for me. It just doesn’t seem to…mesh as well as it could have. I don’t know how else to explain it.

It’s like if you can’t buy the premise then the rest just won’t work for you; and I just don’t buy the premise. <shrugs> The work that the dolls do just doesn’t seem very relevant to me.
