General Question

What does it mean when you call someone and you hear the regular ringing sound, but each ring is followed immediately by a short lower tone?

Asked by ezraglenn (3502points) February 5th, 2008

It’s almost as if the tones overlap slightly.
Are they on the phone with someone else or something?

It usually means the person you’re calling is on the phone.

It could be a answering machine or even multible phones as I have. Some will ring sooner then the others and none sound alike.

Call waiting is beeping through to the recipient.
