It is said that the new series "V" is a parable for Obama's administration, what do you think about this?

Asked by kheredia (5566points) November 4th, 2009

I saw the premier for this series last night but i didn’t think about the connection between the aliens in the show with Obama’s administration. I just saw on the news that some are comparing the show with Obama. I think it’s all b/s, the series is a re make so the story was made many years before Obama. Anyhow if any of you saw the premier, do you really think these guys are anti Obama?

Here is a link you can look at to see what I’m talking about.

Saw the show.

No idea what “these guys” you refer to are talking about.

There was a reference to “universal healthcare” when the V offered to open alien clinics in all major cities, but that was about the only current topical reference I can think of. It certainly wasn’t pro- or anti-Obama, in my opinion.

Oh, on second thought…

You’ll hear some critics of Obama frequently make reference to him being welcomed by his supporters as a “messiah”. That his supporters believe him to be perfect and that they perceive any contrary opinion to necessarily be racist as there’s no logical argument contrary to any Obama position.

Similarly, the fictional V are presented in the same way: as supernatural heroes who arrive just in time to save us from ourselves.

Of course, the V are really a reptilian race who wish to dine on human flesh.

Personally, I think the V series is a very poor parable/analogy/metaphor for President Obama. It’s just a recycled version of the age-old adage: don’t judge a book by its cover (because it might try to eat you).

V is a new series?

I’m watching it now. I agree comparing to Obama seems off the mark since it is a show from the past. I think it is more likely compared to religion, or anyone who seeks to control or take advantage of people in an insidious way through control and promises.

V: 1983—original miniseries

V: book—adaptation

V: 2009—on ABC.

I prefer a different V altogether.

That’s pretty funny that it’s being compared. I think any sensationalist phenomenon, new or old, can apply. I actually thought while watching it that it could be a metaphor for a whole lot of things, including jumping on a political or even religious bandwagon. I thought it was really funny how the minister of all people was saying that the people should question the “visitors” and not follow them blindly.

Actually there was also a regular V series after the miniseries in the mid 80’s so I vote no on the Obama thing. As I remember it, I can’t even see a connection. It was helpful and very attractive aliens land with promises to help solve earth’s problems but knowing nobody that goodlooking could be nice, suspicious human spies on aliens and sees them eat live mice. Oh no! They are actually lizards so they must be out to enslave the human race-because that’s what lizards do

@robmandu that was not the V I was expecting at all!

@SuperMouse, Remember, remember the 5th of November, the gun powder treason and plot. I know of no reason why the gun powder treason should ever be forgot.

I get that there was an original show, but that doesn’t mean that the new one doesn’t include some sense of parable. I’m not saying it does either, but saying that it “can’t” because it’s an old concept doesn’t really make sense.
