What's the best flying-themed Pokemon party?

Asked by Skysong (25points) November 4th, 2009

If you had access to all four generations of Pokemon, and was limiting your party to flying-type pokemon, pokemon known to fly but aren’t necessarily flying types (Flygon, Gyarados, Dragonair etc) or those with the Levitate ability, which would you choose if you were setting out to have an invincible party?

If thats the case haha I would overide the fly/levitating rule and just say Pikachu and Snorlax

Gyarados is an awesome Pokemon because it can cover its weaknesses really well.
Magneton is also nice because of its Levitate ability, making it hard to take down with Ground type moves.
Dragonite’s pretty strong, but it’s really the moveset that makes it invincible. If you use Dragonite definitely teach it Dragon Dance (raises Attack and Speed) and it will be really friggin hard to beat.
I like using Crobat because of the multiple types of movies it can use. My Crobat has Grass, Poison, Ghost and Flying moves and it’s one of the strongest in my party.
Ghost types with Levitate (like Haunter, he’s awesome) are also very helpful.

That’s all I can think of for now… Websites like Psypoke are really helpful in figuring these things out.

Charizard can learn earthquake, which would give electric and rock-types a bad time, and his fire attacks would take out ice-types.
That’s all the flying-type weaknesses.

Any other exaples of this?

Throw in Kangaskhan just for laughs. If you catch the glitch pokemon ‘M, it can learn fly. If you give it a rare candy, it becomes kangaskhan, with the moveset of watergun, watergun, sky attack, and fly which you taught it before evolving it. After that, you can use TMs and HMS to give it better attacks, but keep fly. And viola, you have a flying kangaskhan!

My Tauntrados in Pearl was ridic, yadig? I love Gyara muchly. The next obvious is choice is one of my favorites, Togekiss. Paraflinch those suckers, etc. It’s ability is Serene Grace but it’s still half-flying and can learn Fly I’m pretty sure. Then I gotta go with Salamence. He’s beast. Then, hmm, Skarmory, because you need a tank, right? He’s a good wall against physical damage. Aerodactyl next. He’s a fossil. A flying fossil. Come on. Then Gengar. No flying but he Levitates and he’s a beast special sweeper.

So:

Gyarados (Taunt/Earthquake/Waterfall/Dragon Dance)
Togekiss (Air Slash/Thunderwave/Aura Sphere/Roost)
Salamence (Outrage/Earthquake/Fire Blast/Dragon Dance)
Skarmory (Drill Peck/Spikes/Roost/Whirlwind)
Aerodactyl (Stone Edge/Earthquake/Taunt/Stealth Rock)
Gengar (Shadow Ball/Thunderbolt/Focus Blast/Whatever)

Yeah, so, word.

No all-flying party is invincible. All flyers are weak to electric and ice types, after all. Which means you would be very wise to bring along moves like Thunderbolt and Ice Beam, although I didn’t include ice beam in the above movesets.

This also mans Gyara is 4x weak against electric moves, so be careful. Salamence is 4x weak against ice, so be careful.

Now good luck, sir! I wish I could go with you.

Edit: Looking back I realize Spikes and Stealth Rock won’t be useful against flyers, so just replace those moves with something else you like.

Also, many psychic pokemon have been known to levitate. I’m not sure if that qualifies them for this team, but if they do qualify, put in alakazam and/or starmie. Both of those are great pokemon that can have great movesets.
