What is your speculation on the shooting at Ft. Hood?

It’s yet another tragedy. Someone probably wanted to commit suicide and was a bozo about it and decided to take out his/her angst on others and cause more death than was needed!

Shit.. I know people there.

Unfortunately, tragedy happens.
There is no effective way to eliminate the possibility of random acts of crazy without severely infringing on the rights of everyone.

Think about it, why would there be soldiers in texas? It’s some crazy mo-fo running around killing everyone. Hello, ’‘Texas Chainsaw Massacare’’ ring any bells? I’m not trying to be funny, just saying that place is known for crazies. I pray for thoughs seven people whom lost their lives today to go to heaven.

@DOMINO It took place AT Fort Hood. There are soldiers involved.

Army suicides are at a record high, so it’s not surprising.

A friend of mine witnessed his upstairs neighbor back from Iraq getting carted off by the police and EMS after he flipped out and started stabbing himself.

@DOMINO to clarify further, Fort Hood is an army base.

OMG….my son’s best friend is stationed there…..I’m calling him now.

@avvooooooo I was able to get through, and his wife called me back….she hadn’t heard anything at that time. However, my daughter just called. She talked to another friend of theirs who spoke with Michelle, and she was able to get through to his commanding officer, and he said Zach’s OK…

So sad, so the shooters were in the Army..Lt. Gen Bob Cone said at a news conference that one shooter has been killed and two suspects were apprehended on Thursday. He says they are all U.S. soldiers

Unfortunately, berserker’s are getting to be more and more common. I just shake my head, and feel a few moments of sadness for their families.

How horrible! I have a dear friend who lived there for several years. her husband was stationed there, and they just moved to a different location in May. Wow! What a tragedy!

I haven’t really settled into a speculation at this point. I’m just glad my brother and my buddy’s are ok that work there.

EDIT: I’ll admit that my first suspicion (based on the shooter’s name) was that he was a well placed and very sneaky terrorist. That, of course, is an unfounded assumption and is clearly racial profiling.. however.. I wouldn’t be surprised.

The shooter was a 38 year old captain….a PSYCHIATRIST! He specializes in post traumatic stress syndrome!

I’m really frustrated that they killed the man and didn’t manage to end it another way that results in questioning him. There’s already discussion of his religion and last name. It won’t be long before the speculations start going back to 9/11 territory. I hope the other 2 potential shooters that were captured can be questioned before this gets out of hand.

There were two confirmed shooters?

@oratio I don’t think they’re really sure. At first they thought it was 3, but now they’re wondering if the other two just got caught up in it somehow.
What surprised me is that they have strict gun control regulations on the base. Basically the soldiers do not have access to their weapons, unless they have a civilian gun registered with the MP’s.

@Val123 It’s just not practical to search every vehicle that goes on post. It could have been a personal weapon or.. based on his rank.. I’m sure he could have managed to get a weapon on post without too much trouble.

His rank would have allowed him to get on base without be searched. I was thinking more in terms of the soldiers. I just assumed they walked around with their guns slung over their shoulders! But they don’t….

Also, I stand corrected. Michelle, Zach’s wife hasn’t heard from Zach and didn’t talk to his commanding officer. We still don’t know. I know the chances are slim that he could be hurt but…....

@Val123 No, we don’t walk around with our weapons unless its an official training. Weapon control is of the utmost priority. The difference here is the man’s rank (Major).
