Why would taskbar buttons be randomly flashing without user input?

Asked by Chambz (30points) November 6th, 2009

Taskbar buttons are flashing without being touched every 30–45 minutes. Don’t know why this is happening. Could it be a security issue?

System is XP, the programs affected are pretty much all programs, but, specifically, outlook does it.

Specifically what taskbar buttons are these? They may be running something, so when it is finished they flash.

Possibly security issue.

erich, one application that does it is Outlook, but it happens with pretty much everything.

Samurai, what could it be?

@Chambz I recommend getting a secuirty program such as Comodo or AVG to check if it is security related or not, if you haven’t already done so.

Do the specific programs do anything when they flash? Outlook may flash if it’s checking the email server for new mail.

@RocketSquid it seems like the programs are just sitting there not performing any functions. I thought of that myself when I saw outlook was doing it.

@Samurai I do have symantec endpoint security, that would probably detect it, right?

@Chambz One of the hundred security programs I’ve never heard of, I wouldn’t know. You can try to run a restore point and see if that works.
