Which laptop do you think is a better choice?

Asked by jdogg (871points) November 7th, 2009

Up until now I’ve wanted a 3.06 ghz 15 inch macbook pro…but now there is a new one I like that has almost exactly the same specs except it doesn’t have as good graphics but it has bluray, and its about $500 cheaper. Its the Sony Vaio FW…I really wanted a Macbook Pro because of the lack of viruses, great quality, great customer support and OSX. I want the Vaio because its cheaper, has a blu-ray player. What should I do?

Try to think about it this way- if you bought the mac would you miss the blueray and the extra cash? If you bought the Vaio would you miss having the mac? The best choice is the one that you would be upset about if you didn’t get it.

well, the thing is i am stuck perfectly in the center, i don’t know which one id miss more, i already have a ps3 which has a blueray player, so id have no use for that

Then I’d say get the mac. Unless you’re a movie hound and ‘need’ the HD to be mobile.

this might help me make my decision, when do you think the macbook pro will be updated again?

I honestly couldn’t say. I’d find one of the mac fans and hound them until they told me.

MacBook Pro. It has a big multi-touch touchpad, and when running OS X is more secure.

Is it possible to put a mac OS onto the sony vaio? :p Then problems solved.

(Note: I am an IT noob so don’t flame me if what I said is complete and utter tripe).

it is possible to put OSX on a PC, but it seldomly works right, its slow, technically illegal, and is dangerous for if you aren’t very experienced you could ruin ur HDD

All i wish is for the Macbook Pro to have blu-ray and be $500 cheaper…is that too much to ask for?

Here’s a page that speculates on Apple product cycles. Hope it’s of some help.

Between those two specific models? The Macbook Pro, no contest. It’s OK, I’m a “biOS”.

I’d say go for Dell LOL Although the aesthetics aren’t exactly the greatest in the world, you’re definitely getting your bang for your buck. I think that Sony’s very overpriced, and I don’t believe that they have discrete videocards, which is why their graphics aren’t on par with a lot of laptops that are coming out now-a-days (eg. the HP voodoo); the resolutions that they offer also aren’t great (especially if you’re hooking it up to an external monitor). For Macbook Pro…I also think that they’re very overpriced. Not to mention that repair is expensive, and accessories (such as DVI or m-DVI cables) are very expensive as opposed to PC computer accessories.

Macbook Pro. I was a hardcore PC fan and been through several laptop brands; Dell, Toshiba, HP after they all broke down and having to repeatedly return my laptop in for repair and experiencing the worst customer service ever. I decided to spend a little more for a Macbook and I love it.I still like PC’s but I rather have the peace of mind that the Macbooks give me.
