How do you make these light ornaments/effect things with Yoplait cups?

Asked by xTheDreamer (897points) November 15th, 2009

So I found this picture http://15.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_krc9y4Sn7o1qzduc1o1_400.jpg and I thought how they made these was brilliant. I wanted to learn how to make them because it’s a good idea to do for our school Christmas fair.

Anyone have an idea how they make them?
Is it as easy as making a hole in the bottom and sticking the light bulb through it?

Yes, it is just that easy

Wouldn’t you want to cover up the container somehow? Recycling is good but…..

A part of me is thinking that they are using LEDs in them. You could do something like this without the magnet.

You can see that they’re some sort of Xmas string lights. I’m going to second jp and suggest led Xmas lights.

It looks like they just used yogurt cup as a shade, but I wonder what type of christmas light? the little ones or one of the slightly bigger bulb styles? The color intensity of the blue is pretty strong. It looks as if they are just bunched over a wire coat hanger and hung that way.

I house in my neighborhood had an outdoor chandelier made with icicle lights and a bicycle tire rim that was pretty interesting. The lights were clipped to the spokes, and chains were used to hang the the thing from a tree over a table in the yard.

Edit: OOOHHH! Check this site out!

I agree with the LED suggestion. Even if they didn’t use multicolor LED Xmas lights, you should I think.

I’m going to make tinsel from inside-out Doritos bags.
