What is the story behind your Fluther name?

I am wondering if there is an interesting story behind your Fluther name. How did you come up with your handle? Was it on the spur of the moment? How long did it take you? Was it totally random or meticulously thought out?
In relation: How many of you use an avatar photo that is not you? Does it go along with your handle?
“Valdasta” was a nick-name given to me by my roommates at college. They couldn’t pronounce my last name…so Valdasta was the next easiest choice for them. It stuck.

My first name. B O R I N G.
My screen name is Red Power Lady but without the spaces. Red Power is a term used in Native American activism. It was used during the Civil Rights era. I started using this screen name quite awhile ago and use it on several sites I visit. I’ve never had any reason to change it as I’ve always loved it and it is very rarely already taken.
My avatar photo is just a random image I took off the web. When I started Fluther I didn’t see anyone else with an eye. It is beautiful and a bit funny to have someone watching you, hehe. So I thought it perfect for the site. I noticed many people do not use themselves on Fluther so I went with that theme. I suppose I could get a picture of my own eye…. lol. It has nothing to do with my handle.
It’s a carryover from another Q&A site that died earlier this year. Also spelled the same way backwards as forwards, which I like, plus the whole awkward bit.
It is not original, though. No where else, do I go by this username.
The picture is of me, I had another but it wouldn’t upload properly.
My name is my birthday: 5/9/91. It’s just stylized somewhat interestingly. And my avatar is just a jolly roger, because I like pirates and use this avatar pretty much everywhere.
My name on the site I migrated from was JØE but on fluther that wasn’t possible so I used a zero instead.
Mine is a anagram of my first and last name.
A friend gave me the name Humming Bird because I often flit from one thought, project, idea, or feeling to another like a humming bird. Then he sent me an article that described
‘hummingbird mind’ a symptom of ADHD to some, a sign of creativity and business to others. It stuck. I like it. It’s really so me. :-)

It’s my name pretty much everywhere, from Twitter to Last.fm and everywhere in between.
And no, my avatar doesn’t match my name. But, it’s one of only a few AIM-sized icons that I had handy, so I grabbed it. (And who hates Eddie Izzard?)
I’ve used RandomMrdan for every username I’ve ever had that I can remember really. And my Avatar is Captain Kirk from the new Star Trek movie.
Forgot to mention my avatar. Me, floating in our in-ground pool (early 70’s). I was going for the whole Fluther/aquatic theme. Aren’t I just the cutest?!
@valdasta Thank you, lol. That is one time my word choice is “fancy” compared to simple. I just associate “handle” with something my grandmother would say , not that I mind as I love her to pieces.

My avatar is from the Mad Men Yourself site, and it is meant to look like me had I been alive and an adult ca. 1961. Of which I was neither. I should have some specs on, but I didn’t like their choices.
It’s long and complicated.

The capitalized Q is because the q in lower case looks too much like a lower case g, an I got tired of people typing “sndfreg” in posts (this is before th @ autofill feature was introduced). Also, “freq” is a shortening of “frequency” which is another audio term…
The avatar I’m currently using is not me, but a kid who F-N loves coloring!!! When the zoom feature is implemented you’ll be able to see it in my profile-I just dig the photo!

Like @Drawkward, I picked this name because it’s what I used on a previous QA site (Airow). I don’t know why I picked Sarcasm back then. I’m a sarcastic person in real life, but sarcasm doesn’t carry well through the internet so I try to avoid it usually.
My avatar is me. Smoking some wafer cookie (People keep reminding me what it is, and I keep forgetting). Well, about to smoke it. I don’t know why, I like it for some reason.

My name on CounterStrike went from emorangerr in 8th grade to maddirangerr in high school. Then when I was on my one month Twitter spree, it was maddixranger.
I felt like I needed to grow up, so it became rangerr.

Meh, it’s my name. I wasn’t as creative at the time I was choosing a name as I wish I had been. If I could pick another name, I’d choose Rufus. (My second choice would be BizarroAllie.)
People would refer to my younger sister and I as “Italian Princess Sisters” We aren’t in each other’s lives anymore due to a falling out we had. But I miss her everyday. So in memory of her, I often use the name as my user names. 12 and 17 are just my two favorite #‘s.

My username used to be my real first name and the initial of my last name, which is my default username everywhere because I’m uncreative in this sense and it’s usually not taken. I use it so much that it’s one of my nicknames in real life, it has a weird kind of ring to it.
I had an issue with an ex that knew I used Fluther and snooped on purpose, which then caused all sorts of drama. When my Fluther profile became the first hit when searching Google for this username, I requested a username change. They were kind enough to permit me to do it, and this is what I picked.
I wish I could claim credit for it because I think it’s pretty awesome, but it was actually the handle of someone I chatted with many years ago on SFNet. So, yeah, I totally ganked it. It’s a good one for me, though, because I have a general dislike and distrust of the human species.
I change my avatar as the mood strikes. I really like my current one. To see the full glory of its awesomeness, you have to see the larger version.

I use to play Counterstrike. Me and two friends started a clan and recruited three friends (all named Mike) from Vegas. To tell them apart, one was Mike, one was Mikey and one was Harout. So something happened between the three of them, causing Harout to basically quit gaming all together.
I stole his name. I always pronounced it Oot instead of Out so I changed that.
@valdasta I was set on changing my name for a few days. Then I thought about how bummed I would be if some new user signed up as Allie. I’d feel like my identity had been stolen, so I chose to keep Allie. You can call me BizarroAllie if you want to though! ;)

I’ve memorized the code in Brian Jaques book Triss (the Redwall series). I’d always write my name in it, and the characters are simmilar to XOIIO, so I started using that as my alias. It means Jesse all the same, but I got used to it. As for my sweet-ass picture? It’s just awesome!

One day, 7 years ago, after I had been at a new school for about 6 months, I called my good friend a tree because she was about a head and a half taller than me. She wasn’t really that tall, I was just rather short. So she called me a shrub, and so the nickname “Shrub” just kind of stuck. After that point, she introduced me to anyone I didn’t already know, as “Shrub”. The people who I knew before that call me Alison or Ali, but it wasn’t that many. The next school year started and even my teachers were calling me Shrub. I met a group of boys and was, of course, introduced as Shrub. One of these guys, (@bluemukaki) calls me Shrubbery instead, influenced by Monty Python’s Holy Grail no doubt, and he was the one who told me about Fluther, so I thought I would chose shrubbery as a username. Since then I have created other accounts on other websites and used variations of shrub and shrubbery.
At the moment my picture is orange for @cak.

Boring, I know. I collect “N“s of all kinds in real life (for my last name), but an “N” would have seemed weird here, so I went with an “A”. Several fine people here helped me tweak my avatar to get it to look like this.

I started out using pictures of Cate Blanchett in her role as Elizabeth I as an avatar. That was the warrior queen in armor. For some months I stuck to her images just in that role. But after a while I branched out because they all looked so grim and imperious. I stayed with lovely Cate as my avatar but found other photos where she was smiling. The present one won’t last long; I just put it up in response to a remark about being all “serious and Jeruba-like.” I couldn’t find a picture of her undressed, but this one suggested it.
I chose this name because I think the song is the bestest in the history of the world!

Elle-Bee: Growing up I never fit in. I was always the oddball, being teased and called names. My Mum saw the video for the song No Rain by Blind Melon; there is a little girl dressed as a Bumble Bee who gets laughed at during her performance. She becomes very upset and then she ends up running out and trying to find where she fits. By the end she comes across a big field full of people dressed up as Bumble Bees. My Mum saw me as that little Bumble Bee, and that I would eventually find where I belong. I even have a big fuzzy Bumble Bee tattoo ;)
When my SO heard this story he started to call me “Little Bee” or LB for short. I feel that it really fits me and who I am so I began to use “ElleBee” as my screen name :D

Rooey was one of the best dogs I ever had. He moved to Australia with me at almost 8 years old and stuck around long enough to make sure I had settled in. He was a bouvier and one of the most intuitive and stubborn dogs I have ever known. Somewhere along the line Rooey was used so I went to Rooeytoo. The avatar is a pic of one of my current dogs, her name is Town Dog and she is part dingo, part aboriginal. Very smart and cunning and loveable.
I am a dog nut. I love answering this question because it gives me a chance to talk about my dogs.
Well obviously Mark is my real name, but I found this site like so many others because of a girl… A girl that calls me markyyyyyyyy, it was a crush and I grew over it. Looking at similar questions, I figured I was acting rather silly (knowing what to do already) and Fluther grew tired of new users asking about crushes, so I’ve never asked about it but stuck around.

This is my second name on Fluther. Evelyns_Pet_Zebra was my first Fluther name. I deep-sixed it for various reasons, and decided to stick with the zebra theme. So now I am Psychedelic_Zebra. Evelyn is the 300 foot tall god with six breasts I worship, and I love zebras. Every nickname, combat name, mail art name, and pet name usually has the letter Z or the word Zebra in it.
I’m becoming such an arachnophile that I may change it to some form of spider in the future. Zebra and spider and Evelyn, that should be fun!

I saw a menu outside a restaurant in Portugal. It was in Portuguese and translated into English. One of the menu items was translated as “slices with things.”
I have no idea what it could possibly be (wish I had written down the portuguese) but my friends and I didn’t stop laughing about it the whole trip. I’ve used it as a screenname ever since.

I started With Deathscythe, after the name of a mecha from one of my favorite shows in high school. But that started to get taken too much so on another site I changed it to Silentscythe because I’m into ninja’s and that was a way to satisfy two of my interests at once as well as appeal to my macabre sense of Aesthetics. Finally someone on another site had taken Silentscythe so I decided I needed to change it in a way I was convinced no one would have. I was taking an electronics course at the time and we were going over resonant circuits, so I came to ResonantScythe, and I’ve been happy to discover I’ve encountered no sites since where someone has the name I want.

A Tyrant is a fictional creature from the Resident Evil series. Tyrants make appearances in almost every Resident Evil game as antagonists. They are portrayed as biologically engineered super soldiers, used by the Umbrella Corporation. There are many types of tyrants as the result of several different experiments. I came up with the T-X type (Tyrant X Series) for a book I’m writing and decided to use the name.

The brewing company that makes the beer Fat Tire – (New Belgium Brewing) is based out of, CO where I live. The owner is a hilarious guy, and will give you a 4-beer sampler for free every time you go there. So I go often. To get the free sampler, they give you a list with 18 or so beers on it, and you choose the 4 you want. Instead of putting your name on it, they ask a question at the bottom, and then later identify you by your answer to the question. So they might ask “What 3 foods could you live on for the rest of your life?” Anyways, on this particular day the question was “Where do the wild things go?” Some people were answering things like – Peru, Your Mom’s House, Outer Space, etc. I went with Jeff Goldblum’s Private Facilities. After the drinks had been poured, the waitress came back over and started reading the answers. The Jeff Goldblum answer is really random and clearly not what she was accustomed to seeing that day, so when she read it she started to chuckle and ended up spilling the entire tray of beers. Her reaction was priceless. The owner came over to see what the commotion was, read my answer, and put it on the “wall of fame” with the other best answers. I giggle about that waitress every time I log into Fluther.

Fluther is the first site that I ever came across. I’ve never had a username before. I was one of those people that tried to ignore the internet for as long as possible. Now I’m hooked. not sure if that’s a good thing
My husband joined not long after me and came up with “Blondesjon” for himself. We are constantly changing our avatars. We usually use pictures of famous couples from television, movies or cartoons. We’ve been peanut butter and jelly before. Currently my husband is Latka from Taxi. I have a picture of myself right now until I can find a decent pic of Latka’s girlfriend Simka.

“Brave Warrior” was one rendering of the meaning of my real first name from one of those “what does your name mean” websites (usually it is Courageous in Battle). I have an interest in Native American culture and have gone through several personal battles recently (mom dying unexpectedly last year, childlessness) so it has personal meaning that encourages me.
The avatar is because I love (Gospel) music and I did not see one like it used on Fluther when I joined.
I secretly like to pretend that Jeruba is Cate Blanchett.

@FishGutsDale -I knew a guy who worked around fish all his life, on the boat and then as a fish monger. For some reason he thought he might like to become a butcher but when he made the change he found the smell of the raw meat made him sick.
How can you do it if you can’t stand the smell?
@rooeytoo i cant stand the smell of raw meat either! haha The thing is with good seafood, it only smells like the ocean but the guts get on your clothes and on your skin and they stink!! So when i get in the car at the end of a shift, it’s windows down and air con on full, just so i don’t get the smell.

Well my avatar is me and Courty is short for name Courtney. My surname starts with a B so I often get called Courty-B (it rolls of the tongue- try saying it!)
The bean part comes from jellybean which is what my ex used to call me. We were at a trivia/games night and the question was “If you had to pick a lolly, which one would you pick to best represent your partner.” My ex said a jellybean best personified me and my personality (I won’t go into specifics as to why he chose a jellybean as I don’t want to appear conceited by writing it- lol :-).)
The name stuck and Courty-B gradually evolved to Courty-bean.
I’ve been called Courtybean for years now and like many others, use it for everything. I’ve never actually had to explain the meaning behind it to anyone up until now and had forgotten it’s derivation. Brings back both bitter and sweet memories. :-)

@sliceswiththings- VERY cool! I’ll never forget a sign we saw in Thailand that warned against swimming/diving whilst under the influence of alcohol. It had a cartoon drawing of a guy who was under water and was making out with a fish. I actually found a picture of it here

I was Zen on wis.dm, then Zen on fluther – always wondered how it would be available. I like it – even though I am not exactly zen-like at times, but rather, I hope it is like the Pygmalian wish; I try to be more zen-like and it reminds of me at times to try to be more zen-like.
Frustrated with the amount of time I spent (read: wasted) trying to accumulate lurve, then rewards, I ditched the account to start all over again (you can still see me here and there in my 250 or so questions and 5000 answers) to become NewZen. When I hit 5k again, I’ll become NewNewZen. At 20k – we’ll see. @MacBean Ask my kids, I am always talking in different voices (not because of any illness or anything) and impersonating people. Therefore, the “ZenAgain”, when said, could be interpreted as a German “then again”.
