Why does my arm hurt like this?

Asked by sarah826 (449points) November 16th, 2009

My left arm, from about 4 inches above my elbow to about 3 inches below my shoulder, hurts. Just the muscle. It kinda feels like I’m shivering in that part of my arm, but I’m not cold. My house is quite warm. Earlier today, it was that part of my arm, plus the top-left quarter of my back. It feels so strange. I know nobody on here is really a doctor, but does anybody have any idea about what this could be? It’s really annoying. Thanks.

We have everything here, including Doctors. Be patient. @shilolo is a Dr. Have you been wearing a backpack, or carrying things you usually don’t carry?

I’m going out on a limb here…
Muscle spasm?

There can be many things or may be nothing wrong. please see a Dr. because your health should by no means be left to guess work.

Shilolo has a lot of sound medical knowledge, but he says he is not actually a doctor.

dpworkin's avatar

Ooops, my mistake.

sarah826's avatar

@nitemer – I can’t go to a doctor. My mom doesn’t trust them. This is the least of my health problems. see my other questions.

Your age and the types of activity in which you regularly participate would help a great deal . . .

@Jeruba really? Then is he a researcher? I thought for sure Shilolo was an MD specialty Infectious Disease.

I think Dr.C, magsrags, and there are a couple of more medical professionals on here.

JLeslie's avatar

Oh, medicalgeneralhicks is a wonderful LPN.

I’m 13 and I’m homeschooled so I don’t really carry a backpack or anything. I really don’t think I’ve been doing anything special lately.

@sarah826 If you take ibuprofen do you feel better? That would help muscel pain.

CMaz's avatar

Do you have an arm?

janbb's avatar

I thought shilolo was an MD specializing in infectious diseases, too. A case for Hysteria and the Madness of Crowds?

sarah826's avatar

@JLeslie I don’t know. I don’t have ibuprofen available.

oratio's avatar

@JLeslie Yes, I was of the impression that shilolo said he was a doctor, but nowadays refuse to discuss medical questions, due to people getting into arguments about his answers in those Q’s. I recall seeing him state that he was a doctor both on the profile and in threads.

What are your other health issues? That might help us. and how about a hot bath or heating pad ?

avvooooooo's avatar

@faye Asthma and nutso parents.

faye's avatar

@avvooooooo a hot bath still might help, can’t hurt, won’t bother nutso parents?

janbb's avatar

@Sarah Are you making any progress with getting some support with dealing with your parents on medical issues?

PandoraBoxx's avatar

You may have slept on it funny and irritated a nerve.

I have better information now, thanks to a PM from shilolo. Turns out that I correctly remembered his saying in his 10k party thread that he wasn’t really a doctor, but I didn’t realize that the remark was meant as a joke. So I am guilty of disseminating incorrect information. Shilolo is indeed an MD and qualified to comment on medical questions. My apologies for being the bearer of misinformation.

Do you play a musical instrument? I sometimes overdo it and get weird arm pains.

sarah826's avatar

I do play the piano, but I don’t really like it enough to overdo it.

I am a 12 yrs. cancer survivor, and have had many other health problems in the past. Without Dr.s I would have never be here to write this.
