What are some good nutritional supplements I can take to increase/facilitate weight loss (when added to a good nutrition and fitness plan)

Asked by Simone_De_Beauvoir (39052points) November 17th, 2009

I need your personal experiences, please..I am considering getting some Acai Berry capsules…I haven’t read anything negative about this supplement and it’s full of anti-oxidants and it might help facilitate weight loss…I will not do diet pills or anything like HydroxyCut or Alli but are there natural supplements that you’ve tried that helped your weight loss? Also, this is in addition to a good nutrition and fitness plan so I am not depending on the supplement itself to lose weight

For me, just a normal multi-vitamin. When I take them regularly, I feel more energetic and more stable.

They have green tea supplements, which I imagine would be all natural. Green tea boosts your metabolism.

You need to something like grape juice to clear you out and detox and then strict fast, juice or just water, after the third day, real hunger pangs start to diminish as your stomach’s expectations diminish, once the stomach has shrunk you naturally eat less. Fasting is quick effective and edifying.

@mammal I am already pretty detoxed because of Bikram and I did a couple of weeks of light detox diets a couple of months back…I hate fasting and diets…they don’t work, for me

Fasts are not good for you. They make you lose muscle mass, which is what keeps your metabolism up when you’re not exercising. Working to gain muscle and then fasting is contradictory.

I’ve heard that B12 boosts your metabolism. Dr. Oz writes in YOU on a Diet that part of what makes weight loss hard is that we eat inflammatory foods which reduce the efficiency of our body’s natural processes. Here are some notes I made about his book concerning this:

Anti-inflammatory foods that help improve the body’s efficiency (and ability to lose weight):
1. Omega-3 fatty acids: three 4oz servings of fish per week, 2 gram fish oil capsule per day, or 1oz of walnuts per day
2. Green tea: 3 glasses per day (it reduces body weight and waist and increases metabolism)
3. Beer: one a day only
4. Turmeric
5. Jojoba Beans: 5 grams of jojoba extract increases good cholesterol levels and curbs hunger
6. Soy products
7. Flaxseed, flaxseed oil, whole grains such as rye
8. Tea, fruits, vegetables
9. Broccoli, cauliflower
10. Rosemary
11. Red wine, grapes, grape juice
12. Dark chocolate
13. Cabbage, spinach, garlic
14. Coffee (decaf as well as regular)
15. Bananas

@drdoombot thank you for the list – I think that given the list I can add some fish oil capsules, green tea and rosemary tea and B12 to my diet…I can not imagine drinking beer or coffee (yuck) and I can not imagine eating broccoli, garlic or banans…otherwise I consume a lot of fish, soy products, dark chocolate and spinach…my diet isn’t really bad…
