How to check if a subwoofer is in good condition?

Asked by Destructo (16points) November 17th, 2009

I am going to buy a Kicker L5 15” sub tomorrow and it’s used. Is there anything I should look for that could make the sub not as good?

Of course you would visually inspect it, but the real test is to listen to it through a range of volumes and tones.

Be sure to check the magnet for cracks, Check the paper for tears and also for uniform tension.

Play these mp3 files through the subwoofer. They are designed to test the low end range.

Find good audio files of shotguns and magnum pistols.

Play your DVD / BluRay of the 1st/2nd Transformer movie. Is the subsonic vibration in your room clean. Can you feel it on your body. If you can don’t get carried away. LOL

Old Ice Cube or Snoop Dog.

The real test is the voice coil, not checking it for frequency’s..
