Why do CD's and DVD's drop ship into stores on Tuesdays?

This is something I’ve wondered about for some time…

Why do the majority of CD’s & DVD’s get released on Tuesdays?

How did this become the “rule” of the industry?

It depends on when they count sales. In the UK they count sales on a Saturday night so they release them on Monday so there is the maximum selling time before they count up for the charts giving it a better chance of ,making number one.
