How long does it take a murder to show up on the news?

Asked by troubleinharlem (7991points) November 18th, 2009 from iPhone

This girl I was friends with was murdered on an island in Micronesia today… How long before the media gets it? It’s not on any major news site.

It won’t necessarily make it to the news. There’s a lot of variables to consider and more information is needed.

US news doesn’t tend to cover international murders unless an attractive blond American girl is killed in a foreign nation.
I’m sorry for your loss.

@The_Compassionate_Heretic; she was American, white, and a brunette. she fits, I think.

I can’t help there, but you have my sympathies.
You might consider contacting some media outlets to draw attention to the murder.

Your friend died, and you’re saying things like “she fits, I think.”
Your whole approach is very strange to me.

If her family would like help in getting attention drawn to the case in the hopes of more work being done to solve it – which I don’t necessarily believe works – they may call news outlets themselves. But usually, it takes a while – a week or so until the media catches wind of it. When they do.

depending on the famousness of the victim or the killer, or the amount of victims or killers, immediately to never.

maybe her hometown news might cover it if they find out about it, but it may not make the national news.

@asmonet ; well, I didn’t want to come across as snippy, so I put the “I think” there. And sorry if the question was strange… I’m kind of all over the place right now.
