Ahhh.. The good old days.

People word repeat “sex” and “boobs” hundreds of times at the bottom of the page to get a higher ranking in search engines. I’m glad that doesn’t work anymore.

Keyword stuffing is what many websites do to get their listing in as many searches as possible. Many sites still use it, such as listing dozens of non-relevant names in their listing so that any word in any search will bring up their site.

I have seen a suggestion on “How to get more traffic on my website” to use the phrase “Angelina Jolie e-mail address” or any famous person on your site, and perhaps finish the sentence with “is nowhere to be found” or some innocuous ending.

I have found most crafts that I look up bring totally non-relevant listings because the owners use the words “crafts”, “Patterns” and such to bring up their listing on this very popular search.

If you look up “Free Stuff” or any search with the word free in it, such as “free online patterns” you will find dozens of non-relevant listings with the words “free shipping” in them. This is another suggestion on the “How to” site. Use the word “free” as often as possible, as in “free of defects” or “worry free” to get your listings in every search.

Hey @mike7019 welcome to fluther – great first question – I have learned a new term – props for @johnpowell for the clear and as always humorous answer.

Writing the content specifically to include certain words over and over again is also keyword stuffing and makes for rather dull reading for the user. Content should be organic and useful to your site visitors.

Keyword stuffing is a blackhat technique and no longer works. Google has its own ways of spotting overuse of keywords. I use experienced SEO personnel who optimize my site the right way. Although it is not magic, with a little effort and experience it is possible to get a good page rank. You can find my SEO experts at http://www.freelancewritingdesk.com This is not a recommendation; just information.

@alphonso thank you for the link. I don’t keep up with these things, but my son is a web designer, and he helps his clients out all the time.

There are a lot of users still doing it, with things like “Goth, if you are ready for change, I have a wonderful product for you” or “If you are using Free Patterns for your Crafts, you might be interested in our new product.” Neither product has anything to do with the words ‘goth’ or ‘free patterns’ or ‘crafts’
