Why were mexicans on the side of the road followed by a flaming torch?

Asked by Clair (3832points) November 23rd, 2009

For about 10 miles in town today, Mexicans were spaced out every few yards. They were dressed in white shirts and blue sweat pants. I thought maybe the bus had a new route but then, going out of town, was a white van followed by a Mexican running with a flaming torch. This was down a major highway and that van was going extremely slow, not to mention the FIRE. After I passed it all there was a cop going in that direction. My mother suggests that it could have been a celebration or cultural ritual of some kind. Have you ever heard of anything like this? Trust me, my news won’t cover it and I just can’t figure this out.

I imagine it’s something to do with the Mexican Revolution…

This was in Seneca, SC

It probably has nothing to do with the Mexican Revolution; it’s a few days late. Sorry.

When I first read the question title I thought it was the opening line to a mexican joke. Does that make me a bad person? :(

Were they all men? Were they all about the same age? How do you know they were Mexican and not of some other Latino descent? Were there cameras?

Clair's avatar

Men and women, ages 20–40, I’m guessing. Mexican because the majority around here are Mexican. And when I say majority, I mean all of them, respectively. No cameras.
