What music should I listen to?

Asked by Brenna_o (1779points) November 25th, 2009

Ok so I love alot of music, but I have grown tired with the same old songs I have listened to for so long. I dont like cuss words, or scream-o.
Some of my favorite songs have been
It Happens-Sugarland
My Immortal-Evanescense
What hurts the most-Rascal Flats
Cowboy Casanova-Carrie Underwood
Cowgirls dont cry-dont know the artist.
Based off some of these songs what new songs do you suggest I listen to and see if I like them?

Anything other than Nickleback or The Jonas Brothers.

@Dr_C I like some of nicklebacks songs lol. What is wrong with him?

Dr_C's avatar

@Brenna_o I’m sorry… i just threw up in my mouth a little (am very sick and that tends to make me a bit more blunt). But if you like it go right on ahead. IMHO I like my music to have some sort of talent behind it… quality is a must. In case of that band their songs are all just basically copies of each other… no originality… just a basic top 40 formula that gets them radio play but is still in the “shitty music” category.

Try The Decemberists, Blind Pilot and the new Muse. That’ll be a good start.

Sounds like you enjoy country-ish music. You should give the Avett brothers a try.

Also:
Jenny Lewis, Rilo Kiley, Neko Case, Elvis Perkins in Dearland, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Wilco.

@cyndihugs – you are my new best friend, for Passion Pit and Tegan and Sara. And Arcade Fire. And your entire list, pretty much.

@Anonymous523 You wrote Ryan Adams – you meant the Canadian Bryan Adams, correct?

Anonymous523's avatar

@NewZen Not at all. RYAN Adams is the infinitely more talented American Alt-Country singer-songwriter. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ryan_Adams

Bryan Adams is terrible. And that’s coming from a Canadian.

If you like Evanescence, then try Nightwish, Within Temptation, Epica and Lacuna Coil. All these are fairly heavy rock bands with epic female vocals, and in my opinion the first three are better than Evanescence.

@johnpowell also has a good idea. Check out www.last.fm too, it is a great music
source.
Edit: I just found a new band there, and they’re quite good!

I don’t know your other songs.

Nightwish and Within Temptation are great!

look up the song Kids or Electric Feel by MGMT…its different from any other band i’ve ever heard, but good (a little alternative rock i guess)

Anything you can get your dirty little hands on.

I am a guitar player and discovering music is a great thing, even if you dont like having heard opens your eyes and mind.
