Tranfered itunes library does not find songs with long names?

Asked by drpoop (83points) December 3rd, 2009

ok so i recently bought a mac, As i have a large itunes library i wanted to copy it to the new computer. PC—-> mac
i followed this guide: http://lifehacker.com/242468/geek-to-live--how-to-move-an-itunes-library-from-a-pc-to-mac-and-back

now the problem is that, the way it is set up my itunes can’t find the songs with long names because of the way the pc xml file differs from the mac one
(i have the newest itunes on both and am running vista and snow leopard)
please help me fix this problem, my ratings and info is very important to me…and i donn’t want to have to add them manually , it’s like a couple hundred songs!

ps: i’m good with computers, so if i need to use terminal that isn’t a problem….

This solution kind of sux, you lose all of your playlists. But if you can live with that…

1)
Go to Music in iTunes. Pick all the songs (Ctrl+A in Windows, or Edit->Select All).
2)
Delete. Everything. Delete them all. DO NOT MOVE TO RECYCLE BIN OR TRASH!
REPEAT – DO NOT MOVE TO RECYCLE BIN OR TRASH
3)
Choose File->Add folder to library…
4)
Pick your music folder, iTunes will rebuild your library. You will have all the music, but your playlists are nuked.
