What are the pros and cons of different internet photo sharing sites?

Asked by simone54 (7629points) December 6th, 2009

I’m been using webshots for year now but I am afraid it’s time to move on. I hear of flickr, photobucket, zazzle, ect. Is one better then the others?

I like picasaweb.google.com best for its desktop application Picasa ( picasa.google.com ).

Picasa catalogs all the pictures on your machine, easily lets you pick which folders are included or not, and automatically updates when you add or delete files outside Picasa. It makes uploading and sharing images simple.

1GB online storage is free, 20GB is $5 US/year.

Prints can be ordered online, using Snapfish, Walgreens, Shutterfly and Photoworks. t’s quick and convenient, I ordered in the morning and picked up my prints in the afternoon at my local Walgreens.

I sound like an infomercial, LOL. I guess the con is it’s Google – Gmail, Voice, Calendar, Picasa – I have a lot of eggs in one basket.

I use Smugmug.com. It was the first one I tried and I have stuck with it ever since. So I don’t know how it compares.

Flickr is extremely mainstream and is great for making friends that’ll give you feedback of advice. It is the most popular photo sharing site and has a large number of users

Not offense to you. I don’t see why flickr is so popular. I just tried it. I think it sucks.I want people to view MY photos. Not shitty thumbnails. Do they really need to make it so hard scroll through a gallery?

Flickr is the most interactive image/video hosting site on the internet. Webshots, Photobucket and Flickr are all image and video hosting sites – the only difference between them is that Flickr has established a flourishing community.

Flickr
Pros:
-Because Flickr is well-established community – it’s great place to get your work noticed and get feedback.
-No storage limit.
-Fantastic organizational tools – you can create photo sets, titles and tags (Flickr automatically saves your tags for later use)
-Provides RSS feeds for photostreams, specific tags, and group/forum discussions.
-Visitors can make comments, notes and bookmark/favorite your photos
-You can set your album to private.
-You can set individual photos to private, or only make them viewable to people who are on your contact list – or even certain people on your contact list.
-You can join groups that interest you (street photography, portraits, B&W, etc.)
-In these groups you can share your photos and participate in engaging discussions.

Cons:
-While there is no storage limit, there is a set limit per month -you’re only allowed to post a certain amount of space each month. (100mb and two videos)
-If you’d like to post more you have to buy a pro account.
-While some Flickrites like to protect their images with spaceball gifs, people will always have the ability to hit “Printscreen”.

@ Simone54 None taken. I’m just throwing out suggestions. It just so happens that Flickr is the most popular. I like Picasa for it’s desktop app, very useful.
