Well the reason why the government is giving you a tax break is too boost up the economy and to help the economy avoid a recession. $ 600 can have a huge impact on the economy. For example, you get 600 bucks, you take your family to an olive garden, now olive garden hires a new employee, the new employee pays a down payment on a car, the car dealer buys a house, the housing market gets a boost and so on . Well this might not work at all if people don’t spend the money and instead chose to save it for the future or to pay off debt (like me).

As for the catch itself, I think the government wants you to spend more money. Kevbo might be right about that it might be taxable income when you file in 2009 but I can’t back it up with any substance

@ kevbo yes but the tax on $600 is not that much regardless of what tax bracket you are in so it is not a big deal that it is taxable it is still money to spend….so spend spend spend.

Make sure you stimulate our economy by spending on services or products that are made in the USA, not China. The idea is to stimulate our economy, not China, and certainly not the American corporations that have moved overseas to get tax breaks and limited labor and environmental regulations.

@ susanc I like the policy of torturing terrorist. I fought in Desert Storm and think people fight war to win not be friends. I they shot at me so I really wanted to kill them and don’t care what happens to them. Theydid not care about me when they shot at me…. I am just returning the love.
