If you were to change your full name to something else, what would it be?

Asked by pjanaway (3002points) December 7th, 2009

If you woke up one day and decided you wanted to change your full name to something else, what name would you pick and why? Is there a meaning to it?

Would you choose something really strange, or would it be a serious name. Would it be a famous name, or something completely made up?

I wouldn’t change my name. I’ve had it so long, that it is a part of who I am, and I like who I am. I prefer to focus on changing those things about myself that I am actually unhappy with and that actually have some impact on my ability to lead a better life.

I love my name! But if i were thinking of naming a kid, that I’ve thought of. I always love strange names… they make that person seem slightly more interesting. If I ever had to change my name I’d pick Zeus. It’s such a bad ass name and if people get used to it it becomes normal.

I named my miniature cold Zeus, after much assistance from Jellies on picking the name!

Like the Scandanavians, I might choose MIloskaretaker.

I’d want a prettier name. I have never particularly liked my name. Maybe I’d change it to Michaela or Isabella. Probably Isabella Grace and I would keep my last name. It’s Italian and it shows my heritage. Bella goes good with it I think…

Something different than my current name, but still a family one.

I want something with cool initials (look cool, not spell something) and sounds good as an author’s or doctor’s name. (not MD, PhD)

I’ve recently found the name “Brogan”, but I’m not sure that I could get used to being called something different. :P

Although I really like my name, if I had to choose another name, I have a few ideas:

My #1 favorite guy’s name is Rory, but that’s my boyfriend’s name, so I don’t exactly want to have the same name as him.

I suppose I would choose “Kieran” as a first name because that’s always been my #2 name. “Brody” would be the #3 name. (I like a lot of Gaelic names). I’d also consider going with my middle name “Avery”; my parents came very close to naming me that. And Dmitri. Ooh…maybe Tristram.

As for last name or whatever, I have no idea. I like having a Russian-sounding last name, so what I have right now is pretty good.

My pen names: Victoria Vernon, Paul Brown, Wellesley Applegate…they don’t seem to really indicate the kind of name I’d want…

I wouldn’t change my name, I like it. I hated it growing up and wanted something more “normal” because no one could ever pronounce it and now that I finally appreciate having a unique name, my name’s popularity has grown so much that I meet people with my name on a fairly frequent basis.

Can I give myself a title? ‘High Queen of the Universe’ should just about do it.

DominicX's avatar

@tyrantxseries

I had always read your name as “Tyrant Xerxes” and that’s still how I pronounce it in my head when I see it…

tyrantxseries's avatar

@DominicX lol, how do you pronounce Xerxes?

The only thing I want to do is change my full name from Joesph to just plain Joe. I hate the name Joseph and it’s annoying to have to write it on official stuff when I don’t want to be called that.

@tyrantxseries “zurk-seez”. lol

I shared this story in this post:

I heard about a family in New Hampshire that let their three-year-old son Kyle choose his middle and last name. He became Kyle Bullfrog Banjo. They gave him naming privileges when his little sister was born a few years later. She is Indigo Sky Banjo.

The parents took the surname “Banjo” to match their kids.

I have a strong desire to be anonymous, so I would want a common name.
The most common first name in the world is Mohammad.
The most common last name in the world is Chang.
My name would be (and my Vegas name is) Mohammad Chang.

Just one name: Hamurabi.

MacBean's avatar

Circumstances keep kicking my ability to legally change it, but I did pick my own name.

“Bean” has been one of my nicknames since forever; I added “Mac” to the beginning to reflect my Scottish heritage (since that is a real Scottish clan, anyway), and that became my surname. I used that for a while with my girl first name—the one my parents gave me—and spent about a year meditating on other first names and trying to find the one that felt right. Eventually, I picked Rowan. And my middle name is Kenneth, given to me by a couple of friends (tallin32 and phinnia).

So. If I were to change my name (and I will) it would be Rowan Kenneth MacBean.
