What are the websites to request my annual free credit report?

Asked by Lacroix (537points) December 8th, 2009

I’m not asking for websites like FreeCreditReport.com that charge you a fee to show you what you can get for free…I’m asking for the sites of the federal credit unions that my activity is reported to.

I had them once upon a time, but that was a laptop ago.

The only free credit report you can get in the US is from https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/index.jsp. Do not go to any other website, because none of them are truly free.

While @DrasticDreamer is absolutely 100% right, note that the only thing you can get for free is your credit report. If you want your credit score, you need to pay for it from one of the commercial sites.

@MrItty Good point, that is misunderstood by most people.

You can actually get your report and score for free, but the problem with the usual sites like freecreditreport.com is that they sign you up for a free trial of something. Usually a cinch to remove them a day or so after, but you do have to stay on top of it or it’ll start automatic billing.

So, you very well can get a free credit score, but you have to be careful.

Edit: Oh, and I have used FCR before, never paid a dime, so it does work.
