Best Pink Floyd album?

Asked by Joker94 (8180points) December 11th, 2009

I’m a big fan of Pink Floyd, which of their albums (post-Syd Berret) is the best? What is your reasoning for this album? Nostalgia? Impact? Lyrics? Just plain awesome?

I neglected to read the second part of your question (still thinking like an ABer). In that case, Dark Side of the Moon.

@stranger_in_a_strange_land i think i’d agree for the most part, but it seems like the more i listen to one specific Pink Floyd album i fall for it all over again

Thick as a Brick? That’s not PF.

The Final Cut, followed closely by Animals. One of the reasons I am such a fan of PF is the songwriting of Roger Waters and his social commentary. These two albums, IMHO, are where this skill is best displayed.

wait, i think birdland33 is right, wasnt Thick as a Brick Jethro Tull?

I like the Division Bell

May favorite is Wish You Were Here, though I have to say it’s tough to choose. For me, WYWH has a lot of great memories attached to it.

Welcome to fluther, and lurve to all the new faces. Even @gradyjones , though they like the Division Bell.
PF’s best was Dark Side of the Moon, followed by the Wall and Final Cut.
Though DSOTM is the best, I adore the Final Cut, as a small, personal album, rather than a grand message.

@filmfann – I always felt the Final Cut didn’t get credit it deserved, but like you, I really enjoy it.

Dark Side of the Moon brings back an entire year for me. I love that album and all the memories associated with it.

@birdland33 do you remember Radio Kaos by Rodger Waters? such a unique album – that’s the one that made an impression on me!

I saw the concert for Radio K.A.O.S. in Mansfield, MA in 1987. The DJ was on stage and there was a phone booth in the audience where people could call the station and request Roger to play PF songs.

I also saw the Pros and Cons concert in Hartford, CT. That concert was done in surround sound, and Waters’ band was Clapton on guitar, and Phil Collins on drums. The most recent Waters’ concert I saw was in ‘07 when he performed DSOTM. All tolled, I have seen PF 3 times, Waters’ 3 times, and Gilmour 1 time. Unfortunately, I have never seen PF with Waters.

@kewlguy_exABuser Welcome to Fluther. You should know we don’t flag wrong answers, just rude ones.
It is exciting to have so many new voices here!

@filmfann oh sorry… still learning, but I do want to take this opportunity to let you and anyone else reading this to know that I am so impressed with fluther and don’t regret leaving AB at all now! Just wish I knew about you all earlier so not to have wasted so much energy and effort on nonsense questions that dominated AB.

Wish you were here and Animals

Dark Side of the Moon will always be my favorite, but Momentary Lapse of Reason deserves honorable mention.

Wish you were here
