Terra-forming Mars: would this warm up it's core again to regenerate it's magnetic field?

Asked by Agent222 (20points) December 11th, 2009

The planet must have a magnetic field so that it would be protected from radiation, meteors, etc. So, if we can’t warm up the core whats the point?

Sounds a bit far fetched to me.

I’ve been a sci-fi fan for over 50 years, and have read many stories about terraforming, but given the obstacles, and the unknown unintended consequences, I really don’t think it would be practical. We already have one planet with environmental problems due to unintended consequences, why start messing around with another?

Nobody actually knows anything about terraforming.
