Asked by zookeeny (888points) December 11th, 2009

…. do you freeze, hold your breath and keep very still until they go away? Do you hide behind the sofa?under the window?in another room? until the all clear? or do you answer the door with unclean teeth, greasy hair and in your worse pjs and dont care?

Hope someone else is in the house and does it else just brave it. But only if I am expecting a parcel :D Else I just pretend to be out.

I have hid in the past. I’m not ashamed to admit it. I have found myself as a grown women doing the army crawl until I am in a spot where I know cannot be seen by any door or window.

I’m always paranoid about the doorbell ringing though. It seems like a thing of the past with everyone being so “connected” now.

1. startled
2. freeze, turn down TV and listen.
3. scramble to put on something.
4. have explanation ready why it took so long to answer.

haha i freeze and listen, if i’m upstairs i slowly move down the staircase, go to the door, stare out the peephole until they leave hahaha

My fiance calls me the staircase vampire haha I’ve gotten so good at moving down our creaky stairs silently

I don’t open the door.

I let the dogs answer the door, that usually gets rid of most unwanted callers, hehehe!

I hide until my dog stops barking.

Stand behind the locked door and wave….

Well, I just go ahead and answer the door to see whoever it is . I’ve answered the door in my boxers, briefs, and just a towel wrapped around the lower part of my body….

I feel like THEY came to MY home ; so I’ll answer the door however I look ; I’m not in a beauty contest .

If someone else is home to answer the door, I’ll let ‘em. If it’s up to me, they have to take me the way I am. (However, I would at least have a robe on.)

But if I just don’t feel like it, I don’t answer. Same with the telephone. It’s there for my sake, not to put me at someone’s beck and call.

If I am a wreck I don’t go to the door. Actually if I just don’t feel like it I don’t answer the door.

I don’t OPEN the door for anyone I don’t know.

Like @rooeytoo I just let the dogs answer the door. With 250 pounds of dog barking no one stays on the front stoop for long.

I duck down and crawl to the nearest bedroom where I then peak out the window until I see them walk away. I’m not a big fan of unexpected visitors.

I would rather be bold and answer it and tell them that I don’t want any company, but I don’t trust myself enough to stay firm, they would probably end up inside

A few months ago there was an armed home invasion robbery about 10 doors down. I never answer the door for strangers anymore.

Someone pushed in our front door one evening last summer. The two biggest dogs greeted them and chased after them so we never even got a glimpse of them. The dogs came back about 10 minutes later looking very pleased with themselves.

I like dogs, especially big dogs.

ItalianPrincess1217's avatar

@Darwin What kind of dogs do you have?

SABOTEUR's avatar

Same thing I do when I don’t feel like accepting phone calls.

Nothing.

Darwin's avatar

@ItalianPrincess1217 – An American Bulldog, a Pitbull, and three mixed breeds that seem to have some chow, some shepherd, some golden, and a touch of dachshund.

ItalianPrincess1217's avatar

@Darwin Perfect for chasing people away! I have a pit. She does wonders for keeping strangers away :)

The Bulldog and the Pit love to be helpful like that. She weighs 120 and he weighs only 65, but both are very muscular and have big teeth.
