Do you do the majority of your holiday shopping on-line, in the store, or do you do something else for gifts (like homemade, gift cards or cash)?

Asked by jca (36062points) December 12th, 2009

i do the majority of my shopping in the stores – i’m old fashioned like that. i like to see the item, feel it, and i know sometimes i get things on clearance that i am not sure would be available on-line. however, i do some on-line.

i am wondering what other Fluther members do for their holiday shopping.

My niece and my sister are really easy to buy for. I head into the stores for those two. The menz in my family all get gift cards. My two nephews asked for gift cards this year, as well. One of the places that they wanted a gift card for was KFC, lol.

I PREFER to shop in stores. but sometimes online in necessary. but this year i’m trying to make mostly homemade gifts. hats, scarves, and maybe even STAINED GLASS!

I do about 50% handmade, 40% online and 10% in stores.

I am old fashioned also. I did ALL of my shopping in the stores.

I like to see and feel (in some cases) just what I am getting for my $$$.

Have just 2 gifts to go and I am FINISHED !

Every single solitary thing I’ve purchased thus far was online. Just like the LCD tv I’m going to get. I hope I don’t try to overly compensate for something.

Even though the cost of shipping sucks, what sucks even more is shopping in stores during this time of year. The lines, the sea of crowds, the trouble with finding a vacant parking spot, and the bitter and exhausted employees. No thanks. I’ll gladly pay seven extra dollars for ground shipping. Come to think of it, I hate shopping in stores at any given time of the year.

I’m feeling crafty this year, so most of my gifts will be handmade.

with the economy the way it is this year, I am having to cut way back on my Christmas shopping, I am just able to do it like I have in the past, but since I am on the computer the majority of the time I usually shop online IF I can get a better deal, but you need to watch out for S&H charges that sometimes kill the deal – I have learned that from experience.

Most in stores, then home made stuff, then online. My husband goes nuts on Black Friday, so I’m lucky I don’t have to do a lot of actual shopping.

This year I’m making almost all of my gifts. I’m knitting like a banshee. About 5% is store bought and 5% is online. (And mostly not bought, but from swaptree.com)

@Clair wow – thanks so much for the link – I never knew a place like that existed! I will definitely check it out throughly.

We do the majority of our shopping in stores or online. There are a couple of family members we traditionally exchange gift baskets with, and it’s always amazing to me how filling a basket can rack up a big price tag. So, the past few years I’ve been adding a lot of homemade stuff to those baskets. I make spiced applesauce and can it, use a vanilla bean left from Thanksgiving desserts to make vanilla sugar, bake some pretty Christmas cookies, things like that.

I’d be happy to make some homemade gifts, but baking is my only domestic skill. I’ve never learned to knit, am not particularly crafty, and don’t really have the patience for projects like that!

Online, or handmade. Most of the time I can’t even deal with stores during the rest of the year when there isn’t holiday insanity going on.

I dont have much money so most of my stuff is gonna be homemade this year.

Online – hate going into stores in November/December.

When I shop for gifts it is always in stores, unless it is off of someones registry of some sort. Generally I hate online, I want to be able to see it, touch it, etc.

Luckily this year there are hardly any gifts to buy.

I make all my own greeting cards and gifts.

100% online. Usually works out about 50% cheaper and you have way more choice!

Also its like 100x quicker!
