Do you like home-made gifts or store-bought gifts and why?

Asked by Qwertymuffin411 (550points) December 13th, 2009

Do you like home-made gifts simply because they’re homeade and because time and thought were put into them? Do you care if they look perfect or not? Or do you (or anybody else you know) just prefer store-bought? Or do you not really care?

Not really a fan of gifts, I have everything I want. :)

But if I had to choose, I would choose store bought, unless it was some kind of art or sculpture, then hand made would be my choice!

I have good friends that do the hand made gifts each year and love it. What we do is donate to a charity of our choice each year instead of gifts. I would rather have a hand made gift over store bought though!

I’d love to get handmade gifts now, because I’m reaching a point where I either have all the store-bought stuff I need, or the things I want are big-ticket items that I’d feel about better buying for myself. (Adobe CS4, drawing tablet, flat screen TV.) A handmade gift is nice because it’s a memento of the person, and I’d rather know that they’re thinking about me than get some cool new stuff.

It really depends on the amount of thought that went into it. I like to make jewelry for my female friends and they tend to love it, not because it’s a nice piece of jewelry necessarily but because each piece is completely individual and meant for them and them alone. The same is true of store bought items as well. The best present I ever gave my mom was her favorite version of pride and prejudice on dvd. She was so excited to get it because she was flattered that i had been taken note of how much she wanted to own it.

I like any kind of gifts that show that the person knows who I am.

@janbb: Ooooo, that’s way better than what I said and way more succinct. GA.

Home-made food but store-bought books, electronics, and most clothing.

What? I LIKE GETTING STUFF, OKAY!?

Either way doesn’t matter to me. I don’t get that many gifts so just the idea that somebody wanted to give me something really makes me feel special. That being said, I do love the home made food gifts. :)

I simply luv any gift I can use. Those I cant use go in the cupboard, sadly ;-(
