What do you think would be a bad practical joke to play on someone?

Asked by Shatzee (750points) December 13th, 2009

Like, let’s say, a bunch of people are trapped in an elevator. You bang on the door and yell “Fire Department”! They get all excited and you run away. Would that just be mean?

Yes! Telling someone a family is dead and that “dead” person appears and yells surprise! This is of course after you’ve cried till the tears ran dry…

In my mind all practical jokes suck. Someone always gets hurt, offended, scared or embarrassed. call me a stick in the mud if you’d like but i don’t like them.

It would probably be a bad idea to swap someone’s mouth wash with Cillit Bang.

Years ago; I became angry at a woman ..so I called and had her utilities turned OFF on a Friday afternoon : Phone, Gas, Electric, and Cable….

She was not able to get them back on until Monday and Tuesday…. Had to pay fees for the re-connect etc…..

This was in the mid 60’s when they did not verify who was calling for a turn off etc….

Guess I was a BADDdddd Boy !

once upon a time… we moved a friend’s car from his usual spot in the parking lot… when he did not find his car he fainted, then, we laughed… no word from him ever since…
ooooh, also we placed a “for sale” add in the newspaper back in 2003… “for sale 2002 vw golf gti, only $5000 please call xxxxx” he received calls (to all his numbers) for like the next 4 days…
those were good times :D

I saw a real mean one the other day. Fill a garbage can or a large recycling container with water and lean it up against someone’s front door. Ring the bell and when they answer the door let gravity do the rest. I suppose if you wanted to be extra mean you could replace water with someone more vile.

@Ansible1 wow. I fucking hate people now.

Someone putting a pair of panties in their friend’s car so the girlfriend or wife of the friend will find it. just mean!

Never been a fan of pranks, it’s one thing having a laugh but imagine before doing anything what it would feel like to be on the receiving end of whatever it is. To me a bad practical joke is anything that is mean spirited or causes someone upset or harm.

In college, I don’t remember how we did it, but guys would often tape people into their dorm rooms so they couldn’t get out without help. I think this was a really messed up thing to do because if there had been an emergency, they would have been trapped in there. Nothing ever happened, but this prank was more mean-spirited in nature.

My favorite dorm prank was to sneak up outside someone’s closed door at night, and tape cardboard all around the edge of their door frame, leaving a space at the top. There would be a gap of about two or three inches between the door frame and the cardboard. I’d get on a chair and fill up the space with packing peanuts, and the doors all opened inward, so the person would be covered in styrofoam when they went to leave in the morning. Also, once we turned the hallway outside the RA’s door into a slip n slide. He was pissed at first, but eventually he had to get out, so he took off his shirt and did a major bellyflop onto the slip n slide.

@holden My thoughts exactly. There’s just nothing funny about that one. Nothing.

@Haleth You just reminded me of a bad prank that killed a college student here last year. His friends set off fireworks in his dorm room while he was sleeping. It caused a fire that killed him. All the young men were promising athletes/students at this university. One dead and three arrested. Very sad.

Haleth's avatar

@jonsblond That’s so tragic. What a huge error in judgment.

For some reason people like to push other people into pools while fully clothed. They never stop to think about the cell phone or ipod or whatever other electronic devices they might have on them that are now ruined.

ummm…yeah. That sounds like something that should be illegal.

Ansible1's avatar

@poisonedantidote I knew a few guys in college that actually wouldn’t mind that one too much.

Fact from fiction, truth from diction. Placing a piece of luggage at the air port with a fake bomb inside along with something that ties it to the person you are playing the prank on, then walking away leaving it to be discovered. pppppst….I did not tell you that.
