What do you think motivates someone to become a parking inspector?

Asked by Brassman (112points) December 13th, 2009

It must be a tough job, walking around in the public all day, wrecking people’s day and being detested by most people they deal with. Why would someone choose to do that?

Because they need to earn money so they can eat and pay rent.

And for the heady sense of power they get by knowing they can ruin someone’s whole day.

For the pay. Also, perhaps for a desire to make the roads safer. People get angry at parking inspectors, but really, you’ll never have to deal with them unless you park irresponsibly. I love the parking inspectors <3

They believe there are rules for a reason and those rules need to be enforced.

Its a job, and being that it is a gov’t job, they probably have good benefits. I’m sure its not high on anyone’s list as a job to do, but someone has to do it.

It’s a stable job with government benefits, and it’s not terribly difficult.

My girlfriend wants to be one.

It’s good pay, a stable job, and who gives a fuck if people get mad at you? I bet the person who was trying to park but couldn’t because you were taking up two spaces was pissed too.

The desire for some low level of power and control over others.

A civil service job appeals to many people. Decent pay, very good benefits and usually ironclad job security as long as you follow all the rules to the letter. Many people have jobs that cause others to dislike them, so what?

it’s a job, maybe they meet the requirements for the job and it’s a way for them to get their foot in the door, and the benefits of working for the government are great. i work for the government (not as a parking inspector) and during down times in the economy, we’re not getting laid off. i say when you work for the government, you’ll never be too rich but you’ll never be broke, either.

If it’s a good paying job, that would be a big motivator. I think some people would be drawn to that because they could be out walking around all day. Some folks just can’t sit at a desk or work in a factory all day long.
