Would you want the USS Starship Enterprise hanging on your Christmas tree?

Asked by Val123 (12734points) December 13th, 2009

Behhhh. Well, some of my friends (as well as department stores and the White House, of course) have these perfectly coiffed trees. So lovely and all together. I want one too. I love beauty and class. However, I’ve thrown that over, for all of these years, for all of the school-made Christmas decorations that my kids have made throughout the years, which I save year after year (what comes to mind first is a construction paper chain….down to only 3 links…that one of the kids made probably 17 years ago, in kindergarten, which continues to make it’s appearance on my trees year after year) so my trees would be defined more as a “Cluster” than “Classy!” However, kids are grown, and I’m downsizing. I still have the “important” decorations (including the construction paper links) but….beauty is starting to phase its way in for the first time.

Well, on Friday my husband came home from his home town, 200 miles away, for the first time in a month (His dad’s still in the hospital, so he’s pretty much camped out there.) Well, tonight, after Rick left for Pittsburgh, and his Dad again, I noticed a box that said it contained a Christmas ornament replica of the USS Starship Enterprise sitting on the table. I was like, “Oh no. All my hopes and dreams of class and beauty in my decorations, going the way of The USS Enterprise?! Oh no! Whatever shall I do???” Because…I don’t know where it came from or….is it from his family? Or is it from McDonalds? I just don’t know! Haven’t had a chance to ask him about it….

Anyway…would you describe your Christmas Tree as a “Cluster” or a “Classic?”

Mine is now a Classic Cluster…..

Nope; I would NOT want anything to do with Starwars on my Christmas Tree IF I was putting one up this year…

holden's avatar

Well, you could have a leg lamp. How’s that for class?

Seek's avatar

TREK, Star TREK!!

Not Wars!

Come ON, Shaman. ^_^

Seek's avatar

Oh, you can take that to mean, “No, I wouldn’t mind having my tree adorned with a replica of my favourite Galaxy-Class Starship”

delirium's avatar

YES YES YES YES YES

ragingloli's avatar

Only at the top. But depending on the model, I would be too concerned about it falling off and breaking.

@HighShaman No tree for me either. I have several very large plants that are serving the purpose of holding lights and ornaments. And not for the first time!

@holden OR I could decorate a velvet painting of Dogs Playing Poker!

When i was younger we used to decorate the christmas tree with action figures. It was pretty fucking awesome. Earthworm jim on his rocket ship used to be the star :P

HighShaman's avatar

Awwww Seek Kolinahr, they are all the same to me .. LOL… “TREK” – “WARS” ... Oh well; I was in the ballpark…

El_Cadejo's avatar

“Oh well; I was in the ballpark…” i find that offensive :P

I did a tree with my doll collection from my childhood. That was pretty cool. Sometimes people put up several trees with themes. I’ve heard of people hanging Matchbox cars on a tree in their son’s room.

You are forgiven, Shaman. It is only logical. ^_^

Hahaha, I don’t watch Star Trek but I’d roll with it. Maybe get a matching TARDIS ornament, even.

I was much like you…and two years ago I got MY BEAUTIFUL classy looking tree! I waited years!!! LOL My youngest was ok with it..she is 17. The other kids have left the nest.

You could do two trees..lol one smaller?? I can feel your disappointment!! Maybe tell hubby how much it means to you? Bet you he wouldn’t mind if you had your tree?? The starship could be placed in a nice table decoration waaaay off in a corner somewhere so it is still out?? LOL =)

I hope you get your tree…it was so much fun for me to do my own, I actually enjoyed it..instead of (and I loved them don’t get me wrong) gluing the paper head back on the decoration my son made 22 years ago and the tuna can that looked so cute but so, well… old after 15 years. Good luck to you! =)

Give me NCC-1701, keep the damned tree.

sure why not there is no rule on how to decrate the christmas tree . It is great to have one item form your children school days on the tree. I say put the star trek ship—on tree—-, or-on a wreath
one year I had saw an all USA theme tree something form every state and a cowboy theme, and horror movie theme tree.
we had downsize years ago a table top tree about 3ft and a star on top just perfect.

@buttkisses ROFL!!! GREAT suggestion!!!!
@stranger_in_a_strange_land Hey…the dang things on sale on ebay for only $29.99. See Catdancing123!
@therookie I know there is no “rule…” except my own. And my current rule doesn’t allow for the USS Enterprise on my tree!

“I was in the ballpark.” No. No, you weren’t. Sorry.

I do have an Enterprise on my tree! Well, when I have a tree, anyway.

Val123's avatar

@MacBean ughah…where did this ornament originate from?

casheroo's avatar

My husband and father would enjoy that ornament.
I actually prefer a tree with an eclectic collection of ornaments, sentimental value to all of them, and then the filler balls. It’s just a preference.

jerv's avatar

I would rather have a miniature replica of it than the whole damned ship considering that my tree is inside.

However, if I was going to have any ship on my tree, I am more of a Heart of Gold type of guy.

Zut alores!! Tres déclassé! Not in my house, not ever – it would clash with my Millenium Falcon.

RubyReds's avatar

My poor tree!!!!!!!

Iclamae's avatar

My mom’s friend does the classy tree every year. To be honest, while they’re kind of pretty, I don’t think they’re any fun. I prefer a christmas tree to have an ecclectic assortment that reflects on the family who put it up. Puts more personality on the tree.

I also like star trek and would put it up out of love.

I would assume it’s a gray model? You might be able to have your classy tree anyway and trim in whites and silvers. Then the model wouldn’t stand out a lot but wouldn’t have to be hidden on the backside.

stranger_in_a_strange_land's avatar

@jerv If Zaphod Beeblebrox will let you have it. Improbability drive always seemed more fun than boring old warp drive anyway.

loser's avatar

Hey, I had one of those! I kinda forgot about it. My ex got all the decorations and stuff. Say, if you guys don’t need yours, I’ll take it!

ccrow's avatar

I already have!! My son had a bunch of miniatures that he turned into ornaments w/some monofilament, so I had the Enterprise, a warbird, oh I don’t even remember… he also took some walnuts, drew faces on w/sharpie, glued on a rubber band & hung those. This is all in late teens-early 20s; he has a bizarre sense of humor. I must have done something right raising him!!

Seek's avatar

I wonder how Improbable it would be for a brood of Tribbles to show up wrapped in pork-flavored towels in the dispenser of the Sirius Cybernetics Automatic Drinks Machine on the Heart of Gold. That would get you to the Restaurant at the End of the Universe in a quickness!

Les's avatar

I would love it. I love the “classy” tree look, too, but you can still have a classy tree and hide an Enterprise there somewhere. Hey, I have a Yellow Submarine on mine. If it makes you happy, then do it.

Stargater's avatar

That would be my dream tree all decorated with Star Trek and Stargate ornaments especially if they were inlit and had all the sound effects from the series!
I would never ever take my tree down again!

Val123's avatar

@Les I’ll trade you my Enterprise for your Yellow Submarine!

Iclamae's avatar

hehe, I want a tribble tree… my cats could provide the occasional twitch for it too. :D
