You don’t, your old modem is dead. Ask us about how to set up your router to require a password.

Please list the brand and model number.

The modem will need to be registered with your cable provider. They need the MAC address and such to validate it on the network. You cannot just plug in a modem and make it work.

If you want to stick with original SpeedStream, call up your provider and ask them if they support it and if they do they will walk you through what they need to register it.

Be aware that you will probably be flagged on your account for not running a company provided modem and this will cause you grief when/if you have outages.

YMMV depending upon the provider. I have done this several times as I like to use my own routers with updated firmware.
