What types of masters degrees are available for Nursing graduates?

Asked by Oxymoron (1239points) December 19th, 2009

I’m just curious. Initially I was going to do a masters of nursing for specializing in anaesthesiology, but now I’m looking for more options. Do you know any of the other specialties offered when doing a masters of nursing? Not any specific location, anywhere in general. Thank you!

Here is a Canadian site that answers this question.

There’s a lot of options, depends on what your area of interest is. My master’s is in nurse midwifery. Most master’s programs lead to some sort of nurse practitioner specialty, a few focus more on administration or staff development.

@MagsRags – Do you know if there are any masters programs for ER nursing? Or possibly Obstetrics?

If you’re interested in hands-on patient care and clinical management, nurse midwifery is really the most direct route. The American College of Nurse Midwives is the umbrella organization for programs as well as for CNMs once they graduate.

Or here’s a link to Nurse Practitioners in Women’s Health with programs and with some additional links.

This looks like an excellent link . It explains the various options for nursing masters and gives you a state by state review of what kinds of programs are available.
