For Buddhists: What is your mantra, and do you practice at home or in a temple?

Asked by desiree333 (3219points) December 19th, 2009

I am just starting to become a buddhist, and my mantra is “om mani padme hum”. Mostly because it is the most popular, and I practice at home.

I thought Buddhists weren’t supposed to share their mantras. I’m not sure where I picked that up though.

TimothyKinney is practices Zen Buddhism as well. I don’t think he has one mantra, per se, but I believe he chants the Heart Sutras frequently. He could probably tell you more about it himself, when he gets back from Big Sur.

I am a lay buddhist of very very light study. I do not practice. I attempt to study the philosophy when time permits and I hope to get to that point where I can feel at ease and slight peace to where I may develop a mantra. I apologize for not being resourceful. I noticed your topics include worship. Worship is not a buddhist practice.
