Does 2009 seem like the year of surprising celebrity deaths?

Asked by Shemarq (1494points) December 20th, 2009

The latest one is Brittany Murphy who was only 32!

It seems to me that there seems to be more surprising deaths this year than usual. What do you think? Is this a trend? What do you think is the reason for this?

Yes I was surprised by a lot of deaths this year. Bernie Mac and especially Michael Jackson. It’s like whose next?

It’s in our nature to recognize patterns.
This one just gets the most attention at the moment.

Mat74UK's avatar

It does now Britney Murphy has just joined the list!

It does seem that way, mainly because a lot of these deaths were all so unexpected aside from the few that were from either cancer or old age.
Michael Jackson and Brittany were real shockers.
RIP Brittany Murphy.
I’m curious to know what caused the cardiac arrest.

I don’t if more died, or that as I get older, I notice more because I’m getting older. If ya’ follow my meanin’.

Don’t have a clue who Brittany Murphy is. Don’t really care either to perfectly honest, so what if they are a celebrity, no need to make a big deal about it, people die all the time. If I was to randomly die tommorow it wouldn’t make the news.. lol, and I wouldn’t care if it did :D

Yes It does.

@Vunessuh: Michael Jackson shocked you? Really? Ooookay.

2009 may not have been a good year to be a celebrity.

Vunessuh's avatar

@asmonet Uh yeah, it did. Thanks.

I am too.

Although she doesn’t look anorexic in Shemarq’s linked photo, I think I read that it was an issue for her earlier in her life.

@mrentropy Then it’s a good thing I kept my ass-modeling on the down low

@Brian1946 Yes, I believe at one point she was bulimic. Someone with bulimia can have a really normal body weight though. She looks healthy, perhaps that was still a demon she was battling.

Why Billy Mays?!

@Vunessuh Michael Jackson surprised me as well.
@Brian1946 You might be right. I believe she had a history of it too.

It seems like being a celebrity can almost be like a double edged sword.

@silky1 I think Bernie Mac died in 2008

Blondesjon's avatar

Oh, for Christ’s sake folks, people die every day.

SPOILER ALERT: we all end up doing it.

asmonet's avatar

@Vunessuh: Well, alright then. He was on a downward spiral for a really long time, with many reported health issues over the years. The erratic behavior pointed to some sort of abuse or imbalance – I just don’t think it was shocking at all that it happened.

Vunessuh's avatar

@asmonet I never followed his life story which is why it was shocking to me. Even if I had followed him closely, some of the shock comes from who he is. Not that he was fucked up to begin with. Ya dig?
