Are there any great questions that haven't already been asked?

Sorry, I was trying to think of a great question, and this is all I could come up with. :-)

Yeah.

At Fluther, they’re called Orphans.

Plenty of stupid answers too.

Is there a Foot-in-mouth Award?

Orphans have been asked.

Likeradar's avatar

Sure. As politics/entertainment/world events/etc change, there will be some amazing questions to ask.

ETpro's avatar

@SABOTEUR Could you elaborate on what constitutes an ORPHAN, or is there a glossary?

Of course there are. There are questions lined up, for miles, just waiting to be asked. They want to be asked, they are eager to be asked, they are forlorn and disappointed and anxious because they haven’t yet been asked. They think: Is there something wrong with me? Am I a bad question? Am I a stupid question? Am I a boring question? Don’t let them down. They are waiting for you, for someone, for anyone to ask them. Don’t leave them out there, alone, flapping in the breeze. They are counting on you! They need you as much as you need them!

SABOTEUR's avatar

@ETpro: Orphans are unanswered questions.

@Likeradar I tend not to count questions on current events as truly GREAT questions, even though I often give them a “great question” rating. They may be great today but are soon yesterday’s news. A truly GREAT question should stand the test of time.

@SABOTEUR Ah, but of course. Thanks.

How delightful to be the first in a thread with an stupid reply..perhaps a Egg-allovermyface Award…!

@lillycoyote I’ll do what little I can.

We must remember the words of incomparable foresight issued back in 1899 by Charles H. Duell, Commissioner, U.S. Patent Office. He suggested closing his office, because as he presciently noted, “Everything that can be invented has been invented.” :-)

Nope. The last one was asked about three hours ago. So I guess it’s time for me to announce my retirement from Fluther. Good luck, you all. And goodnight.

ETpro's avatar

@AstroChuck Haha! Sleep tight. :-)

@ETpro There are certainly more pressing issues, bigger problems that the world faces, but I don’t think we should entirely overlook, dismiss, the plight of the unasked question. The question that asks nothing more than that it be asked.

I hate to disagree with my esteemed colleague, @AstroChuck, but either he is mistaken (sadly) or he is deliberately misleading you so he can keep those last two great questions to himself. Anyway, I recommend you put him on a rack, and slow roast him for a couple of hours, and then he might be ready to divulge those questions. Assuming he knows what they are. Wouldn’t it be sad if he didn’t know? You’d probably feel awfully guilty.

@daloon Hey, did the inquisitors lose any sleep when they tortured a suspected witch to death without getting a confession?

Hum… Now THAT’s a GREAT question. I’ll ask it. :-)

AstroChuck's avatar

I’m esteemed. :-)

wundayatta's avatar

You are, indeed, and you know it!

augustlan's avatar

Psh… I have plenty of great questions up my sleeve. What? I do. ;-)

Freedom_Issues's avatar

Yes, I am sure there are still great questions out there. The world keeps on changing, and new questions will always come up.

I just made an account, but I’ve been observing the site for a number of years (I was unable to make an account at the moment) and I think that the questions have become less philosophical and much more factual. In other words, Fluther is becoming more like the Y-A-word.

ETpro's avatar

@Freedom_Issues No question about that. :-)
@Pseudonym That’s a sad state of affairs.
