What do you want to happen at a party?

There are a lot of parties out there, and they seem to have different goals. At some the goal seems to be to get really drunk, although I’m not sure what happens when you are drunk like that. Inhibitions may go away, but does silliness ensue? Where is the fun?

People often complain about cocktail parties. Boring. You have to talk to people you don’t know and would never talk to if you have a choice. You also have to be a social butterfly, or perhaps you can snag one interesting person and spend the evening talking to them.

There are dinner parties and late night parties. Each has their own pleasures. For me, a party is about making connections—about talking and getting to know people. What do you want from a party?
