After a huge global disaster do you think fluther would make useful history?

Asked by Axemusica (9500points) December 22nd, 2009

(If you’re a gamer think of Fallout3)

….For instance,

Some how the earth has become a wasteland. Very few humans in existence and many of which wonder how things came to be this way or even to study human behavior in the past. Assuming the possibility of some people surviving that were able to figure out how to find the data.

Do you think fluther would be quite vital information to them?

Also, if some sort of other global disaster, like over ran by Zombies. Do you think the information found on fluther could help people at solving the apocalypse?

How do you see fluther helping the future during or after pandemonium?

This is a wide resource on a huge amount of topics, but it might be a little difficult to sift through. Just thinking how hard it is to find a specific thread for those of us who know how it works, it seems like it would be difficult to come up with a complete guide from someone who stumbled upon it. Can we arrange to have bendrewim kept in some sort of emergency capsule to explain to the next generation? Maybe just their collective brains…

Well, we’d all know how to jailbreak our iPhones. :-)

Would the internet still be functional at that point? Fluther would only be useful if one were able to access it.

If we can access fluther, I imagine that it would be entertaining reading for some future anthropologists, but I’m not sure how useful it would be. We’re definitely a skewed segment of society (not representative of people as a whole), so you couldn’t make any generalizations from us.

In other words, we’re kind of odd and quirky. :-)

Sounds like the movie SLEEPER.

They’d probably think lurve was some sort of money system, and wonder why everyone was always talking about frizzers and pancakes.

But there’s a lot of controversy on Fluther, what with all the differing opinions and stuff. So it might be difficult to get “just the facts, ma’am”.

@ChazMaz really? Never heard of it and I might wanna check it out, haha.

@Dr_Dredd That’s why I said some might be able to find the data, via getting to some electronic device that was internet capable and finding it’s history. I would think eventually they would start collecting a huge data base if they were to collect enough information.

I checked out the zombie category, and most of the stuff there is speculative. It probably wouldn’t help people in a zombie apocalypse too much. But Fluther could be an interesting resource to see what people thought about before the apocalypse, if we still had internet.

Are you kidding me? OF COURSE! Knowing things like what it’s like to orgasm every time you come into contact with cold water, or how to sync your google calendar, or what kind of orgy the fluther community would have… any of these topisc wouls prove invaluable.

Some may seem innocuous or impractical but every question on here and every quip is a window into our collective psyche… it speaks to our character and sense of community and our willingness to help each other in the trivial and in the serious.

It’s not possible for most to travel and see things themselves and mingle with people of different culture and tradition and know their thinking process.Through fluther, they could get a hint how the world is and how the different kind of human species dwelling in it think and act.Of course, that won’t help them to draw out a strong conclusion, but atleast they’d have an idea about the people, their morality and some could definitely be guided in the path of new found ways to live and sustain themselves keeping the human values intact.
.
Youngsters might not be getting good guidance at their home or in surrounding, but they could get it from any of the members who is in a state to help others and show them the light when they are in need of it and ask for it.People who couldn’t reach out others for help on any matter could sought it through questions and responses. It’s just like building a new community to help others, share and learn.Surely there’s a hope for the betterment.

I think with the wide variety of opinions and ID’s on here, that Fluther would be most helpful to future generations after a global disaster. I can just see some future scientist hunched over a flickering computer screen scratching his head and trying to figure out what LOL :):) ROFL and ^-^ means. Should we start working on a Rosetta Stone for them?????? :):):):):):):
