How does one become a "movie location" decider/producer/searcher?

Asked by JonnyCeltics (2721points) December 23rd, 2009

Just wondering….

I was reading an article about the person who decided Angkor Wat to be the place to shoot the Angelina Jolie flick, Tomb Raider….and I thought to myself – ’hey, why so lucky?’

Be it a Hollywood thing? I also wonder what the official title of the job to be…?

That would be called a location scout or location manager.

The above link will tell you everything. It’s a much more difficult and complicated job than one usually suspects.

The Entertainment Economy Institute has a good report that surveys the entertainment industry, and has a section on qualifications and proficiencies/skills necessary for location manager etc.
