Why/How/did you realize Costco's popularity in most conversations these days?

Asked by mollypop51797 (1430points) December 25th, 2009

I know, interesting question huh? Nope. More like a, eh who cares about Costco. Well, I think it has reasonable prices for food, electronics, clothing, and many more things compared to other stores. Well, I was told by a friend, and just recently realized how Costco has made its way into most of our conversations.
-“Oh Barbara, I just LOVE these cold cuts!” “Well, I got them at COSTCO!”
-“You know, I’m going to a wedding today, and I am hosting the after party.” “Oh, you don’t say! Why don’t you go to COSTCO for a great fresh and good tasting cake baked right there in the kitchens.”
-“Gee whiz! I need to buy some winter clothes! (or gosh! where can I buy a new phone for the house, or let’s find some Christmas presents[...a little late for that but it’s just an example]) “Oh, why don’t you go to COSTCO!”

Have you realized this too? Has it been happening to you lately? Because it sure has happened to me!

i love Costco and have said it before on Fluther. I have been to Costco in Las Vegas, California, Pennsylvania Dutch Country (where they have horse and buggy parking section in the parking lot), plus NY, NJ, CT. I use Costco for books, electronics, furniture, milk for the baby, diapers, garbage bags, paper goods, shampoo, pharmacy, optical, holiday presents, so many things, too many to name. Some people tell me they don’t eat that much, which i don’t either, but i tell them eventually they will use 100 garbage bags, or 30 rolls of toilet paper, or whatever. my couch is from costco, my mattress and box spring are from costco, my bedside lamp is from costco, my tv is from costco, my dining room table is from sam’s club, my daughter’s play table and chairs are from costco, i could go on and on.

They treat their employees really well. That is why I will shop there before spending a single penny at Wal*Mart.

And the pizza they sell in the front kicks ass and is really cheap.

We don’t have Costco where I live.

I go to Target, Marshall’s, Goodwill, and Kohl’s instead.

I’m pretty certain that Costco has never entered into one of my conversations.

Never been to Costco so it hasn’t entered into my vernacular.

I am a fan of Costco. You have to buy a membership to shop there, and whether it evens out in the end, I have no idea. There are things that I keep going back to buy, and there are things that I’ve never bought there. The food items, paper goods, and household goods such as Cascade, trash bags, and laundry soap are ‘king-sized’, so if it’s not something that I use all the time, I don’t buy it there. They also have books and DVD’s, jewelry, clothes, a large alcohol section, meat, produce, and an optical department, a pharmacy, and a lot more stuff. I have bought many gifts there for many different age groups because the price always seems good. The cakes are exceptional and very inexpensive. I buy a lot of fruit there because it’s always the best that I’ve ever had. A difference of night and day comparing to fruit from grocery stores. If you do need to return something, they don’t ask questions. If you don’t have the receipt, they look up your purchase on the computer. I buy contacts there because they were about $15 less than ordering them from my eye doctor. Those are the reasons that I keep bringing up Costco in my conversations.

@lfino – Sounds a lot like Sam’s Club. However, because Sam’s is a part of WalMart I avoid it.

Sam’s and Costco are pretty much the same thing. I do know that Sam’s/Walmart are the same, but I don’t know if Costco has a counterpart.

Sam’s is owned by Walmart. Costco stands alone. Costco and Sam’s have the same idea but Costco will have more upscale brands than Sam’s does. I go to Sam’s too, every couple of months, because they have good stuff, too.

Also, someone brought it up earlier, Costco has VERY inexpensive food products at the front. I got a meal of a longer than usual htdog and a large soda for $1.59 what a deal! another Costco opened up in Darien and I live up in CT so I’m hearing of Costco a lot.

They have slices of excellent pizza for around $2 too and it’s excellent. It’s not the same as the pizzas they make in the back of the store by the meat counter either. Someone told me once that it was and I asked. We’ve had the back of the store pizza, and it’s basically tastes like frozen pizza. The snack area pizza is fantastic. Try the churros too. To die for. I think they’re $1.
