If you ever considered buying life insurance, did you buy or not buy? Why or why not? Was yours a good decision?

I just want to get a sense of people’s perspectives and their motivations for buying or not. Thanks.

My parents got themselves a nice little Metlife agent when they came to America – I’ve had a life insurance policy since I was 12. So did my brother. When he passed away, the payoff was big and, sad to say, helped us afford a house. Both of my parents had pretty sizeable insurance policies. My father passed away very recently and his life insurance money is the only reason we didn’t lose our house. I also have life insurance through my job that I pay for but that one’s just for 60K and I got my husband a policy as well. It makes good sense to me. My aunt has said that if we want, we can pay for her life insurance policy and she will put me as the benefactor. It’s something we’re considering. Oh and I randomly have a $1000 life insurance policy with Bank of America, because they gave it to me.

I have a family and my wife and I both have life insurance. It is important that, should something happen, our children will be provided for and if one of us survives, the other’s death should not be a financial harship. In fact, we probably don’t have enough life insurance.

We’ve both had life insurance on each other practically ever since we’ve been married. Then when the girls came along, we insured them, too. I can’t imagine NOT having it! It’s basic protection for your family.

Term life rather than whole life is the better deal.

Here is an article that reivews how to think about it and make a decision that is right for you.

I’m considering it. I’ve racked in a lot of student debt with my parents as cosigners. If I die, it’ll be nice to know they wouldn’t need to worry about my mistakes.

Yes, I have carried Term Insurance ever since I have been on my own. I used to carry enough to protect my husband and children in case I passed away, but not I only carry enough to help pay off my share of the mortage payments.

Yes life insurance is a great choice. We moved for my job not to long ago and we started comparing auto insurance prices since we sold the house and now renting till something comes along. We met a nice Nationwide Insurance agent in Huntsville, Ar and asked if we had life insurance the other insurance company I had never asked that did not know State Farm had life insurance. I have a small $25,000 whole life policy on me that my parents got on me I dont make payments on it is a paid up policy they call it. So we where talking with him and he had a worksheet and we did it found out we both needed around $300,000 each when you figure 2 kids under 10. We switched over autos and took 30 year term life out too while we where there. I never thought of it till I was asked and then explained in terms I could understand about insurance the other company just wanted me to send payment ever 6 months. The big part was what we where paying we are still saving about 5% with the life included and better coverage on autos.
