Are there any rules of fluther etiquette I should know about?

Asked by jctennis123 (427points) December 28th, 2009

I just signed up for fluther and I love it. I was also kind of wondering if anyone could pass along any fluther tips

If you want to answer a q with a joke/sarcasm, make sure you’re not the 1st answer. It gives the asker a chance to get real answers.

Keep side conversations in whisper.

Question people’s ideas and views, but don’t use personal attacks.

edit: Also, no textspeak. We like intelligence here. :)

No CAPS and spelling and grammer seem to be a big thing. You can find the fluther rules and much more by scrolling to the bottom of the page and clicking on topics down there. Welcome to Fluther!!

I guess the mods felt it time for another round of Fluther Etiquette as it has been asked and answered many times before.

I would say the first thing to do is search a topic before asking a question. I don’t mean about this one, I mean in the future.

Spellcheck first if you aren’t naturally good at it. And no txtspk.

There are a few others but I’ll let the others add theirs. Welcome to fluther!

Edit: What @likeradar said is very important: we try to stay on topic – especially a serious one – for the beginning of the thread – and only then do we start off-topic jokes and stuff, or conversations. Also, there is something particular to fluther which shows you are being sarcastic, off-colour or kidding – the tilde ~ or use one of these winks ;-)

Only I am allowed to say whatever I want without one.

;-)

Use spell check. Don’t take anything personal.

@Zen_Again well, I speak in L337 speak sometimes, but never an abundance of it.

I guess if you wanna be goofy, just be politely intellectual about it. :)

No personal attacks on individual people. the moderator will “cut you off at the pass” and i agree with this.

Don’t post homework questions without presenting serious evidence that you’ve already given it your best shot.

Don’t respond to a question by telling the asker to “just Google it”.

Ok cool thnx everyone, I mean thanks

@jctennis123 haha It’s ok to use words that people are obviously going to be able to understand. Like thnx, dunno, ain’t. It’s things like using “Q“s where “G“s should be. Saying “U” instead of “you” or saying “R” instead of “are”. These are the kind of things that degrade quality. It’s understood that no one is perfect and are going to make typo’s, but if you do have a spell checker like I do cuz I’m horrible at spelling then I would suggest utilizing it. :)

Like “typo’s” instead of typos, e.g.

don’t waste the questioners time giving “I think maybe once I heard from a friend of a friend…” or guesses when the questioner asks for a factual answer to a particular question that needs a particular answer. with “I want your opinion” type of posts, that would not apply.

as well, make sure to read the question carefully, without skipping over anything. (guilty of that last one myself, sometimes.)

Is there a spell check and whisper capabilities if you’re using Iphone to access fluther?

Usernames that begin with a “B/b” are generally give a “Great Answer” regardless of how they actually answered.
